SUNDAY
SCHOOL
CHILDREN
"And ' a little child shall' - lead
them." .? ' :V .W '
Tig at Centenary Methodist
church today." The children in : the
" Sunday school wanted a new build
ing in which to carry on their work.
The men of the church agreed, but
they didn't work quite fast enough,
so the -children started a building
fund , of their own free will. Within
a short time the children are to
have a 135.000 fireproof cement
Sunday school building. This is the
way in Which Superintendent George
F. Pratt explained the situation:
At the present time it is necessary
for the Sunday school to meet in the
church auditorium and for the class
to scatter : themselves about the room
and recite their lessons as best they
can. Only a few private rooms are
available. The basement Is not large
enough to accommodate the school.
The trustees and stewards have pur
chased a lot to the rear of the church
and have appointed a building commit
tee. During the past week a local archi
tect was asked to draft plans for i
. building suitable for Sunday school
work. The church parlors and banquet
rooms will also be a part of the new
structure. - ' "
Centenary Methodist' Sunday school
i has gradually been growing larger until
the average attendance .has almost
reached the 300- mark.. . The entire school
is 'Organised under the. organised class
standard, which accounts for the growth
of the work. Two or three of the classes
recently decided they had waited for
' their new building long enough, so they
procured a small oaken chest and placed
it in front of the church. Each Sunday
- the various .classes deposit their build'
log fund contributions in the chest. The
idea so captivated older members that
they have given voluntarily toward the
fund. This movement brought quick ac
tion from the men of the church. Dr.
Pratt said. No subscriptions to the
building fund have yet been taken. Dr.
Frank L. Wemett is pastor and the Rev.
Harold Oberg director 1 of beys' work.
Due to the aggressiveness of Mr. Oberg
the Sunday school has more boys in at
tendance than girls.

Children will ; be accorded full
honors in Portland churches Sun

cant Change is the announcement
of the " larger churches that they
will surrender the main Sunday

in order that they ; might i present
their programs of song and verse
and receive their graduation certifi

active interest in its child life is be

clergy" have awakened 'to : the; fact
that the church of tomorrow must
come from the child ;life of today.
Those who desire to sea the coming
