With only a few days remaining for
the United Stasis Grain corporation to
remain in business, much interest is at
tached to the future trade in the wheat
market. ) Recent contracting at interior
Oregon points, while of small yolume,
baa been at extremely high values. ' .
That wheat trading on the Portland and other
exchanges will be resumed within the immediate
future is i indicated in the market generally.
Owing to the fact that government control has
existed for so long a period the trade is some
whst at sea as to what opening values on the
market will be.
Extreme strength is the feedstuff market of
late has been due to the fact that not only
is the season backward but feeding hsa been
necessary this season for a longer period than
usual. J .

cattle were steady, lambs were steady,
while sheep were easier.
Hog buyers did aot pay the extreme price
for offerings in the North Portland alleys dur
ing the day because there was nothing avsilable
ef that quality.. In general the market was
considered steady.

Abnormal conditions follow wars, causing high inter

thereby insuring high interest yields, even after the
return of pre-war. conditions.

Belgium's Amazing
Belgium is an inspiring example of
the quick recovery of a war-torn
country. Commerce, industry, trans
portation, and finance the founda
tions of a nation's wealth are being
rapidly restored to the normal. :
Belgium is at work. Belgium is pro
ducing. Her industries . are, on! an
average, operating at about 75 iper
cent, of their pre-war capacity. Coal
production is keeping pace with the res
toration and expansion of her factories.
Belgium's commercial. progress is re
markable. Her exports td Holland,
France, Italy and Germany now sur
pass her imports. With England, she
is approaching a balance of trade. By
the end of 1920 it is expected that
Belgium will have the advantage of
a favorable trade balance.

Belgium is one of America's best cus
tomers. She is already buying from
us as much as before the war.
Belgium's railroads, destroyed by the
war, have been practically recon
structed,, and . freight and passenger
traffic are moving freely.
The highly cultivated lands of Belgium
are again producing their crop-quotas.
Belgium is nearly on her feet finan
cially. Under the Peace Treaty she
has a prior claim of 2,500,000,000
-francs on the German indemnity.
This Company's office in Brussels was
established to be of the fullest possi
ble service to both American and
Belgian interests during the work of
rehabilitation and in the greater ac
tivities of the future.
