Demonstrations "During .Trip of
Caravan Found Instructive in
Towns Where Stops Were Made.
The truck caravan attracted con
siderable attention through the
-southern and central part of the
state, and reports corning in from
the ' fowna where stops are made
how quite an impression on the
people of the state and, particularly,
those In farming communities.

The hospitality of Hubbard, where a
stop for lunch was made on the first
day and where the Commercial club

resentative of the National Automobile
Dealers' association, is well pleased with
the manner in which the caravan idea
Is" taking hold. Some disappointment
In official circles was manifest when
fewer trucks than was ex'pected turned
out for the Journey, but those that made
the start are staying by the procession,
which should arrive in Portland some
time today.. :
The caravan was at Kugene at . the
same time as the Ad club caravan, and
the town turned out en masse. From
Fupene the trucks turned northward,
while the Ad club pilgrims went on to
Stockton. - '

George M. Laffaw, formerly general
salesmanager for the Atterbury. Truck
Sales company, has taken over the dis
tribution of the Stewart truck, formerly
handled by the Atterbury company, and
will cover the state of Oregon as hts
territory, j
Laffaw was formerly also . with the
Marshfield Auto company, at Marsh
field, Or., and has beconie familiar with
the automobile and : truck business
through a period of long acquaintance.
He was in the: service, and after dis
charge took over the

out to Wells Brothers in order to move
to Portland. He became a member of
the firm of the Atterbury Truck .Sales
company, assuming the position of gen
eral salesmanager. 1
Stewart headquarters will be for the
management of present at Atterbury location,; 343 Oak
street. It Is' his intention, however, to
announce his. permanent home and plans
in the nearf uture. '

Monro and north of Corvallla to the
Polk county line Is going forward so
that - in about three weeks the con
tractors will begin laying the asphalt
and expect to complete the paving with
in 80 days, thus making a complete
paved highway across the county. The
highway from Albany, to Granger has
been designated a market road and is to
be Improved immediately. Two railroad
crossings will be eliminated where many
accidents have occurred and the new
road will be all on the west side of the
railroad where hitherto ttie railroad has
been crossed twice on the west side of
the Willamette river. '.'
The roads are galn open for auto
mobile travel from the Willamette val
ley, and to Newport. Scarcely a day
passes without new arrivals. Work on
the highway is in full progress. t

Essex and Maxwell-Chalmers plants will
receive visits from the Portland man, , ,
who thinks he will, be able to arrange for
more frequent shipments weet.
In addition to seeing the factories In '
regard to the product. Boss will go
after the railroads in order to be sure
of transportation facilities t'or the cars
he manages to wrest from the clutches
of his factory friends. Although the trip
is primarily one. of business. Boss will
also make a visit to relatives in Colorado
on his way back to Portland.
