SUGAR PRICE IS BIG
- .... 'if. ,.. . , . .,.,...
Y O ANN
There appear to be no relief in sight
as regards sugar prices and even now
forecasts are being Vnade by some in
terests that still higher values are to
rule. - '
While the government Is, and has been,
investigating the sngar market for some
time, this has not stopped the refiners
from advancing values to new high rec
As one of the leading refineries of the
Pacific coast is affiliated with sugar
plantations in the Hawaiian islands, it
is quite natural that the owners don't
care a snap how high sugar prices go.
That extreme prices for sugar are
liable to cause demoralization in the
canned fruit market Is the report now
in the trade. On the basis of the prices
being asked for fruit by growers as well
as the extreme price of sugar, all canned
and preserved fruits will be so high
priced next season that the average con
turner -cannot purchase.
In anticipation of these extreme values
some of the retailers are buying the
present crop canning to carry over into
the next season. This may be a good
tip to ' the consumer. ' - - ; ;
The markets are overstocked with Cali
fornia . cabbage and lettuce at this time
and there has been a very sharp cut in
quotations. The stock Is of somewhat
better ' quality than previous arrivals,
although still far below the - Oregon
standard.: , j '
Asparagus ; is lower in price with very
liberal increase . in offerings.
New crop I Bermuda type onions are
materially lower in price and today are
selling at practically the same figures
as old Oregon.
Cauliflower is rather scarce at this
time and prices are high - with quality
unsatisfactory.-

This Sale of Frozen Army Beef
is a new thing to most of us: Until we have tried it, we hardly know what we think about it. To the
many who have come, again and again, 'for purchase's, we need say nothing of the wonderful value
they are getting. The meat is of the very best Eastern corn fed grade of beef and has been thawed by
meat experts who understand their work. Only experienced union meat cutters are employed in this
up-to-date, sanitary market, and the prices are astonishingly low.
We will offer special inducements to hotels, boarding houses, etc, in
the sale of these meats in either large or small quantities.
