"The Traffic Officers association be
lieves,": said Lieutenant Sylvester, "that
a uniform system of city laws and
rules of the road is the only solution
for the prevention of accidents. , Stran
gers coming to a city have to familiar
ize themselves with the ordinances of
that locality or they are subjected to
untold i inconvenience, and the .officers
and police forces are called upon to do
double (work, -.particularly in the tour
ing season, correcting , faults, and ad
ministering warning to habitual vio

something that 'all the. states should
get together on, and the visit we are
making to. Washington may result in
something of the sort being brought
about,"
Yakima Spending
$880,890 on Roads
Yakima county has under construe
tion at the present time 10 road con
tracts covering ; SO miles of highway on
which 880,890 will be expended. The
complete program for the year will call
for an expenditure of over $1,000,000 for
improving the roads of the county. Of
the amount under construction all -but
two miles is to be hard -surfaced high
way. .The mileage Is about half con
crete and half bitulithic surface, the lat
ter to "have mostly a concrete base. The
average price of the concrete is about
130.000; a mile. -
Injury Threatened
Wi r.Ti "Rpnti Ppti rl ovs
One frequent cause of injury and even
ruin to tires Is bent fenders. One has
aeen many cases where fenders, bent j
through collisions or some other acci
dent, have been ' overlooked in the ex
citement. ' Xt does not take many turns
of he wheel under such conditions to
ruin a: tire. In some cases,: the fender
of the' unloaded car does not touch the
tire. But as soon as passengers get in
the rear seat the tender drops down and
drags on the tire. A tew dollars spent
In fender repairs will save several times
the coat of the repair in tire service.

Other types are rapidly becoming obsolete" throughout the East, the South, and the
Middle West. This condition willk soon prevail in Oregon. Within two' or t(iree years
it .will' be 'difficult to sell anything hut a closed type. Therefore, from the standpoint
of depreciation value . or second hand value as well as . from the standpoint of up-to-date
style and of personal comfort, your new car must be an enclosed car. ;
. Closed cars are not only "the style" they are" the sensible cars, the comfort cars for
Oregon. . - : . ; : '
i Watch them as they drive past you. Try one yourself on any kind of a day in cold

: The hizh price of the closed car is no longer a handicap tov your owning this most comfortable type.
I Ford efficiency fnethods now produce these fine enclosed cars at a lower price than any other open car.
