This memorial day was born In 1911 in a little church ..at Philadelphia when Miss Anna ' Jarvls asked her church t have a memorial "service for her Mother. This mother had for a number of years observed the custom of distributing: white carna tions to the children who attended the morning? service' In her .church. The first Mother's day was Jield in memorial of Mrs. Jarvis. Tfte chil dren came in groups and wore white carnations in honor of their friend. Celebration of the day has grown on the nation so that mothers living, as well as thone who are' departed, are now honored White flowers are worn in honor of departed , mothers, while- red flowers are worn by those who are for tunate enoug-h to have: their mother still with them on thts earth. A large : number of pastors notified The Journal that they would preach Mother's day sermons. A few of .the special announcements follow: BAPTIST '.!.'.'::'.,'' Mother's day at White Temple will be observed by the entertaining- of the state Sunday school convention at the eve ning session. A meeting? for' women only will be held. Dr. W. A. Waldo will rive the principal address on "Mother hood." Oreetinjrs will be broiifrht by Mrs. T. H. Richmond, state adult super intendent. Luke and Paul Rader will lnr. A report on the church campaign will be given In the morning. Margaret Carney, 'the- blind soloist, and J. F.
