REMOVAL OF JETTIES FROM
SLOUGH CHANNEL IS ASKED
Ten lumber firms operating on Wil
lamette slough have requested Indorse
ment of the Chamber of Commerce on
a plan to remove the jetties now block
ing the slough channel at the north
end of Sauvles island. The firms state
In their request that removal of the
Jetties, which now permit the passage of
' river craft only, would permit towing
of log booms direct from the slough to
Portland and allow the loading of
coastwise lumber vessels in the slough.
The jetties were originally placed at
the upper, end of the slough to scour
out a shoal which Continually formed
at the north end of Sauvies Island, tn
the main channel of the Willamette
river. Consideration was given the mat
ter Monday by the navigation commit
tee, which will investigate and present
a recommendation to the board of dl
dectors at their meeting next week.

passed by congress, a copy of which
