Oldfleld went to Seattle after his visit
to Portland, and, according to a Seattle
' paper of last Hunday, he decided to lo
cate the branch In that city. Investiga
tion brlnRS to light, however, that Old
field gave a thorough once-over to the
northern city, and went away after
dropping a few words of encouragement
' that the optimistic Seattle folks took
for final judgment, according to Colby.

Are Now in Elaborate
New Broadway Home
The Cummlifgs Carson company, local
distributors of Firestone tires, are In
their new location at 104 Broadway,
vhere they have arranged the most
tasteful tire distributing station in the
city. It In the, only concern dealing
in tires that has, a drive-in service, and
thorough facilities for gtvjng service
with the lea.st delay and the greatest
amount of convenience.
The office of the company is well
planned, combining a business atmos
phere with one of customer-comfort that
would do credit to an automobile agency
of the better sort.
"We believe that the plan along which
we have constructed the building will
meet with the Instant approval of Fire
stone users." said P. J. Carson, "for
he advantage of having a place where
tires may be adjusted and examined

Sales Departments
Moving to New York
The general sales department of the
Kelly-Sprlngfleld Tire company will be
transferred from Cleveland, Ohio, where
It has been located for past years, to
New York city, according to word just
received here by Charles Mead, mana
ger of the local Kelly-Sprlngfleld
branch.
The Kelly-Sprlngfleld company Is
about to commence work on a new 16
story office building In, Gotham, where
the general sales department will be lo
cated, as will also be the housing point
of the general office staff, together
with the executive departments.
Otis R- Cook, who has been with the
company for the past nine years and
has been vice president and general
sales manager for six years of that
time, announces that J. V. More will
move up to' the position of general
sales matiager, with offices in New
York. Morg's former position was that
of assistant general sales manager. W.
H. Bell will succeed More as assistant
general sales manager.
Mr. Cook will not sever his connec
tions with the company, but will re
main in Cleveland engaged in special
work for. the concern. He will retain
his stock in the company and will con
tinue to act on the board of directors.
The reason fcr the removal of the
company to New York Is not given, but
it is to be supposed that the move is
'made with a view to getting nearer the
financial and chipping center of the
country. Practically all other large tire
companies now direct the activities of
their factories from that center.
The club is acquiring quite a bit of
special furniture these days and hbpes
soon to be able to expand their pres
ent quarters or move to a clubhouse of
their own.

Company to Inaugurate Fixed
Schedule, Using U. S. Trucks.
The West Coast Distributors'' corpo
ration announces that It has secured the
exclusive distributing rights tot this
territory of Hassler shock absorbers for
Ford cars and trucks. The growing de
mand for .this type of shock absorber
and the increasing number of Ford cars
in use in this field has resulted in this
move, according to officials of the com
pany.
The new firm maintains a branch at
435 Stark street, with E. K Flint in
charge of the territorial distribution
for Portland and vicinity. Flint was
formerly in charge of a large whole
sale house here, and has just returned
to the ' city after .an absence of six
years.
A. R. Arnot, factory representative
from the Kassler headquarters, spent
several days tn Portland recently, get
ting acquainted with personnel and
conditions here. Together with Mr.
Flint, he arranged for a complete serv
ice, station where service might be ob
tained for Ford owners, desiring the
Installation of the shock absorbers and
where a complete line of Hassler
products will be in stock.
The company announces that two new
designs have just been placed on the
market, of double-arm or twin-type con
struction. One design Is for Ford
sedans and the other for Ford one-ton
trucks. . This design has ' eight coil
springs Instead of four, and is said to
give easy riding of a quality superior
to the product formerly turned out, re
gardless of the weight thrown upon
them.-

resign for monetary reasons, but to assist

Garage Changes Hands .
The Ford garage, largest brick build
ing in Klamath Falls, , comprising about
one third of a block, and owned by
George Biehn, passed Into the control
of Joel T. Ward, JOhn Brett and E. J.
Murray January 17, through a deal by
which the three men will lease the
building with an option to buy. The
new proprietors Weill remodel the build
ing and use it for business purposes, the
nature of whieh was not mentioned.

H. E. Warren, formerly of the
City Taxicab company, has organized
the Portland-Astoria-Seaside Trips
company, a concern of which War
ren is owner arid manager, which
plans to conduct a regular stage
service between points along the
lower Columbia highway, running
on fixed schedule between Portland
and the beach resorts.
United States trucks will be used by
the company and will be equipped with
pneumatic tires, California tops and
comfortable seating arrangement. The
bus service will consist of six of the
trucks, operating from Portland as a
headquarters. After March 1, the office
and waiting room for the stage line will
be located at 62 Broadway.
Warren is confident that the company
will meet with immediate success, for
with the opening of the spring season
Intercity travel will be greatly aug
mented.
Nearly Beady for Span
The new bridge over the Cowlitz river
at Toledo will be ready for the steel
span In about three weeks, according to
Ernest C. Bechley, coupty engineer. The
structure will be more" than 700 feet in
