In the past few days considerable
s,5 ""mopping up" has been done by the
( supply and sales division force of
the Emergency Fleet corporation in
selling lumber remaining at some of
' the yard;? on the coast from wood
hip construction, and virtually all
f the fir and hardwood in the Port-
land zone has been disposed of.
At San Francisco, a larer amount of
piling and lumber was sold. It had
been left at the Liberty yard, Alameda.

turns have been heavy and close to
175.000 was taken in (or the week end
ing Saturday. Sales on the coast for
the week were approximately $250,000.
O-W. DOCK CUT WORK STARTED
Prepared to leave North Portland
harbor this evening the Port of ' Port
land dredge Tualatin will likely start
work on the. O-W. dock cut Tuesday or
Wednesday, according to an announce
ment made by Superintendent Pol
heraus of the port commission this
morning. '
The Tualatin is prepared to make a
channel of from 30 to 32-foot depth in
front of the O-W. dock. The channel is
now about 26 feet deep. It is Indicated
by the emergency work which Is being
carried on at the railroad company's
dock that larger vessels -will supplant
the Rose City on the San Francisco
Portland run In the near future.
Two Leave for Orient
Carrying a total of about 8,500.000
feet of timber, two steel freighters oper
ating under different shipping compa
nies left down river at noon today, each
bound for ports In the Far East. The
steamer West Kader, which came to
Portland from San Francisco to load
lumber at the Inman-Poulsen mill for
Shanhkal. China, was the first to leave
port and had 4,166.781 feet of lumber.
The Kader is owned and operated by
Sudden A Chriatensen and local ar
rangements were In chare e of A. C.
Stubbs of the Columbia-Pacific com
pany. The West Hartland. a locally
constructed steamer, left soon after the
Kader. with approximately 4,200,000
feet of timber. She Is operated by the
Pacific Steamship company.

was substituted on the Pacific Steam
ship company's service between San
Francisco and Portland for the Curacoa.

Rose City Schedule Longer
Announcement was made by the San
Francisco A Portland Steamship com
pany this morning that the Rose City, in
Ilia future would operate between Port
land and San Francisco on a 10-day
Hchedule instead of a nine as in the
past. The next sailing from Portland
is now set for Wednesday February 4.

The schooner Mindora left San Fran
cisco Sunday afternoon for the Columbia
river, to load lumber for Australia for

The Mr.rshfield Is expected to arrive
in the Columbia river Tuesday from San
