Commission Inquiry
Is- Under Headway
Charges that the state Industrial acci
dent commission baa been, i misusing
stats funds In the interests of bis; busi
ness, which were brought before Gov
ernor Olcott by Lee Roy E. Keetey. a
Portland attorney, are being tnvesti
srated by a special committee appointed
toy the governor. :
Testifying before the committee Tues
day, Keeley gave many specific instances
wherein, he claimed, the commission had
erred In making awards. J. W. Kaste,
another . lawyer, appeared before the
committee Wednesday and argued
against certain acts alleged to have been
committed by the commission. .
The committee Is composed of . three
men representing the public, three rep
resenting the employers and three rep
resenting labor. Among those on the
committee are A. C. Dixon of Eugene,
chairman; Thomas McCusker, .secretary
of the Associated Industries board ;
Frank Greene of the-electrical workers'
union : Robert - Gill, secretary of th6
Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumber
men; J. H. Brooks of the pressmen's
union, and Sandy McLean or renaieton.
Dates Set for Filing
On Homestead Right
At Tillamook Head
Applications will be received at the
United States land ofrlce in the postor
fice building from January 14 to Febru
ary 3 at 9 a. m. from persons who wish
to acaulra homestead rights to 327 acres
of land at Tillamook Head In Clatsop
county. The acreage is located on a
high bluff overlooking the sea. about
three miles from Seaside and near the
Tillamook Head lighthouse.
Applications will be filed by number
and homestead entries awarded by lot
tery, the drawing to take place at the
land office February 9. Descriptions of
the land will be furnished at the land of
fice, and applicants may apply for
tracts ranging In size from 40 to 160
acres.
Armory, which will be exclusively to
the American Legion. , ex-service men
and the National Guard, th battalion
will guard the entrances to Oie Armory.

National Guard
The masque ball of company H, Na
tional Guard of Oregon, was well at
tended Wednesday night and the guests
enjoyed themselves in the large ball
room with plenty of music until 1919

an order establishing an officers' school
under his direction every Monday night
at the Armory. The noncommissioned
officers will be instructed every Thurs
day night, with Captain R. M. Conner
as instructor.
Colonel Hammond has Issued an order
directing the Third Oregon and En
gineers to turn out to escort General
Pershing upon his visit to Portland
January 18. Major J Francis Drake
will command the battalion formation.
