Ifehalem Pioneers Here Mr. and Mrs.
R. M. Wooden, pioneers Of Nehalem, ar
rived at the Imperial Saturday. The
Woodens connected themselves with the
Nehalem, valley when the townslte was
nothing but' a mudhole and have stayed
with It ever since. They belong to the
Clatsop County Pioneer association, the
Oregon Pioneer association and the
Indian War Veterans.
Bids eo 168,000 Feet of Lumber Pro-
posalfl have been Issued by the quarter
master department asking for bids on
100,000 feet of lumber to be shipped to
San Francisco. The Chamber of Com
merce has asked that bids be placed on
this amount locally even though It Is a
small request, as active bidding may
help materially in retaining the quarter
master supply depot in this city.
Rev. A. i. Hanna, pastor of Marshall
Street Presbyterian church, will speak
al the Men's Resort at 4 p. m. today. A
. men's song service will be led by H Des
mond and music will be furnished by the
orchestra. This evening at 8 o'clock Rev.
Levi Johnson will give a Bible lecture.
On Wednesday night at 8 there will be

the permission of the health bureau.

ington high school is promising In its
graduation play. The play to be pre
sented is E. M. Parker's "Pomander
Walk," a comedy in three acts. A riot of
laughter is promised, from this typically
English play, for some of the best talent
in the school Is Included In the cast..
Sir Peter Antrobus, the leading char
acter, is represented by James Beard.
According to the opinions of the students
of the school Beard is the most talented
actor in Washington high. Anna Mc
Pherson as Morjollne Lachesnics, play
ing opposite Beard, takes her part very

Santiam National
Forest Timber to
Have Public Sale
Bids have been advertised for the sale
of 70,000,000 feet of timber on the Brelt
enbush river in the. Santiam national
forest In the biggest forest service tlm
ber sale contracted In the state for many
months. The timber lies on both sides
of the rlveri a short distance above De
troit largely within the drainage of
Canyon and Hansen creeks.
Sixty million feet of the tract are of
Douglas fir of medium size and fair
quality, the remaining million compris
ing 'sugar and western white pine, noble
fir, western red cedar, hemlock and sil
ver fir. Minimum prices are $1.60 for
Douglas fir, noble fir and cedar; $3 for
the pines and 60 cents for other species.
The Breitenbush river is a favorite re
sort for fishermen and vacationists, and
to prevent logging operations from mar
ring the natural beauty of the banks of
the stream or destroying all the virgin
forest through which the scenic road
sometime to be built up the north bank
of the river will pass, special stipulations
will be made.
School Players in
'Green Stockings'
"Green Stockings" proved an attrac
tive offering t Lincoln high school Fri
day and Saturday nights when the sen
ior class presented It annual play. The
staging was good. Ruth Waldron played
the part of Celia, the English girl who
had to wear green stockings until her
older sister was betrothed. John Thomas,
as Colonel Smith, and Clarence Murton
as Admiral Grice, gave excellent support
The play was coached by Miss Christine
McConnell, the drama critic, and Dr.
Moore, dean of women at Lincoln high
school.
