While a firm tone continues In the

desire among buyers to pay this price at
the moment.
Comparatively speaking the loeal potato price

figures than are ruling in Idaho, which is

The market for hay continues to re
flect a steady tone. Some of the lead
ers here believe that prices will rise In
stead of showing a decline during the
immediate future. Barley market Is
inclined toward strength. Demand for
oats is steady.
Globe Grain & Milling company ad
vise :
Of interest to the hay trade ia a bulletin re
cently issued by the office of farm market at
Pullman, reporting a shortage in the hay erop
of Waliincton, Oregon and Montana. They do
not include Idaho, aa much of that crop lat
vear was .hippcd into Washington and Oregon,
hut tliis year, because of infection from boll
weevil. Idaho cat.not ship in this direction. tne
bulletin contains tliis suggestive paragraph:
"By cumiwring the hay supply for last year
in the four northwestern states with the hay sup
ply of this year, keeping in mind the prices that
were received last y.ar for that product, one
should be able to make a reasonably reliable es
timate of what should be the prevailing prices
for hay for the remainder of the season."
It i suggested by Spokane authority that
prices may reach as high aa $40.00, but we
think this ia eDtirely out of line. However, we
mu.t say that there ia nothing in the situation
to suggest lower price, and in fact the local
tuarkut is distinctly better this week than at any
time in the recent past. There is a good demand
for all offeriugs, with indication of an increaa
tng demand.

Coarse Grain Is
Steady at Decline
By Joseph E. Peltchard
Chicago. Nov. (I. N. S.) Following an
Irregular and unsettled market for corn, with a
weak opening, and the feeling quite bearish,
there was at least a partial reversal of condi
tions at raidsession. when the buying power as
serted itself and there were advances all along
the line. Gains were shown of quarter to a
half for December corn. lMVic for Janu
ary, 1 'i (fn 1 H c for May and IS 1 He for
July.
Oats futures were " 4 c higher.
There was little change in the market for
hog product. Pork and rib were a shade lower
and lard was a trifle higher.

CaUerock. Wash.. Nov. 22. The larget

Thousands of Auto Owners Pro
crastinate Until It Is Too Late
to Handle Work Properly.
SaJem, Nov. 21. An unprecedent
ed eleventh hour rush for motor ve
hicle license tags Is now confronting
employe of the secretary of state's
office.
In spite of the warning, pleadings
and urnlng-s of Sam A. Koser, deputy
secretary of state. In an effort to briny;
about a more prompt filing of applica
tions for licenses to avoid this conges
tion in tha closing days of the year, only
200 automobile owners had compiled
with this request up to Friday night'
In view of the fact that there are ap
proximately 50.000 automobiles In the
state in operation all the time, necea
sitatlng the presence of a 1920 license
tag on the first day of the new year,
the Inevitable result of this procrastina
tion can readily be neen.
Inasmuch as the burden of responsi
bility for tha presence of the new plates
on motor vehicle rests upon the own
ers, numerous arrests for failure to
comply with the law in this respect are
anticipated, as It will be a physical Im
possibility for the department, even with
a full staff fo clerks, to meet the closing
day demand fnr plates with anything
like promptness, and It Is expected that
it will be two weeks into the new year
before, the last day flood of applica
tions is cleared awity and the new tag
gotten on their way to the applicant.
