Wild Fowl Have. No
Dread of Bombs
Baltimore, Md. Strange as it may
seem wildfowl have found a sanctuary
at the United States -ordnance testlne
station at Aberdeen, Md., where practic
ally every day cannon, motors, aerial
torpedoes and bombs are fired. Seem
ingly they are unafraid.
Colonel William A. Phillips, command
ing- officer at Aberdeen, writes his
observations on wildfowl and shellshock
to the Maryland conservation commis
sion as follows r
"All "the restricted area of land and
waters of the Aberdeen proving ground
has been formed into a refuge for game.
From alt that I can ascertain there have
been large numbers of ducks geese and
swan in the waters adjacent to the prov
ing grounds.
"As they were not permitted to be
disturbed by hunters I believe they did
not fly as much as usual, and conse
quently .the opportunity for hunters to
shoot them off the reservation has not
been so good as usual.
"This game does not appear to be dis
turbed by heavy artillery firing, so I
amagine they take it more or less as a
thunder and lightning proposition and
very quickly find out that it is of hut
little consequence to them.
"I believe that in a few years this
reservation will cause a decided increase
in the amount of game available, as it
win prevent the rapid and almost con
tinuous extermination of the game which
has been taking place."

The restoration of an apparently use

in the amputation of the other arm.
Hughes recently visited Cardiff In or
