DISCRIMINATION IN
BULK APPLE RATE IN
OREGON
SHIPMENTS
Orders From East Are Cancelled Be
cause Producers of This State Do
Not j Enjoy Suitable Rate as Do
Many -Other States. , -
The Willamette .valley,'. apple grower
is today. facing a most serious loss as
a result of alleged discrimination against
this state, by the railroads In the matter
of rate making. . , .
; There is an enormous demand , for
apples In bulk from the Kat and as the
Willamette valley has a huge stock of
such offerings, sales of many carloads
could be made providing proper rates
could be secured.""; 'r', t 4A -s
' ' PracUeally . all : ether " atatoe - have s special
low rate on balk apples but in this state
there Is no such rate according to fruit men.
except from certain point to certain canneries
in Oregon. No rates on balk apple to out
of state Dointa exist and this baa resulted
in the. railroad asking an exhorbitant prio for
taking shfpmenta of that elasa. The-rate oa
box apple to a certain point east of, the
Rocaiea is . $1.00 per IOO pounds while the
railroads are asking $2 for apples shipped in
bulk to the same polntr
Cancellation of orders ' foe : balk armies for
the east has already been made in aome instances
because of the failure- of this state to properly
protect the producer tuck a ha been don in
most state. - --,..- .
George L Davenport, a well known shipper
here, says that two years ago Idaho had a
very big movement of bulk apple to the east
because of its low rate on such stock and other
state except Oregon are said to enjoy the
tame privilege.

- It appears that the buysrs are never aatitfted.
When there is a big run of cows they prefer
steers or perbape butt and when then- i a
big ran of eteer they are aU seeking oow. It
is on of those usual tunts in the trade, and
whenever the ran are liberal killers are sot
at all slow about taking full advantage of the
situation.
Just now with the yard filled wrrh-steers.
killers are crying aloud for cow. They want
cow and are willing to pay extreme price for
town, because lui tsble cows are not at the pres
ent moment available. When cows 00 me forward
