REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY College Degree Not Essential; Anyone Interested of Average Intelligence to Be Admitted. A greater variety of courses than ever riven before in Portland will fea ture the opening of the University of Oregon extension work next Monday. Besides the wide variety of clauses in the liberal arts and sciences, and the special work in the school of commerce. the new school of social work will make. I Hh Initial bow. A college degree Is not essential for entrance requirements .into the new school of social work, but anyone in- j terested who possesses average intelli gence will be admitted. While the ulti mate intention of the university Is to make the school a finishing institution C where practical field work may be ob tained aftfr completing the sociology work at Kukp'i-. for the first few vtars the school must draw upon Portland many persons in the city keenly inter- csted In nodal work who have never been to college, but who are as well prepared ; for the training as college trained students, say the university authorities. The Red Cross. Portland Welfare bureau. War Camp Community service. Anti-Tuberculosis association and Visiting Nurse association will all cooperate In making the school a suc cess. Classes will be held in the library. ! The school of commerce , will meet in the Oregon building. Work is offered! tn foreign trade, commercial French and Spanish, advertising, business law, accounting, business mathematics, solu tion of C. P. A. problems, salesmanship, business management, credits and col lections. Office of Dean W. Walter Morton has been removed from the Oregon building to 650-652 Courthouse. At the library, courses will be given v education. Knglish. architecture, art, ootany, French, history, mathematics, music, philosophy, physics, psychology, public speaking and Spanish. Boy Scouts Attending Reunion Will Enjoy Campfire Corn Roast A corn roast over' a campfire with an abundance of butter, ice cream, water melons, a treasure hunt and several 'other attractive features will mark a reunon of Boy Scouts who attended the Wahtum lake encampment this summer at the week-end scout camp near Trout dale Saturday and Sunday, Scout Ex ecutive James E. Erockway has an nounced. The boys will leave town Saturday afternoon, bringing their blankets, and remain at camp on the Sandy river un til Sunday evening. It is expected a number of adult guests will be present. One of the most popular games of the Boy Scouts is a treasure hunt, whereby directions are given by various forms of woodcraft to a certain spot, where, be neath a rock or bark on a tree, or un derground in the sand, further direc tions are found. After following up about 15 or 20 directions, the treasure Is found, which goes to the first scout to locate it. Competition Is keen, and to follow the treasure the scouts must have a knowledge of woodcraft, track ing, use of the compass and the sema phore and other devices by which the directions are given, says Brock way. Fair Attendance at Yakima Sets Record Yakima, Wash.. Sept. 24. A summary of the state fair attendance shows that 10,171 more people attended the fair this year than attended the 1918 fair. The total for the week was 60,004. A new record fd one day's attendance was es tablished Wednesday when 15.754 per sons entered the grounds, 3720 more than the previous high mark. Total receipts for the 1919 fair were $43,531.04, an Increase of practically one-fourth.
