EVERY one wants to look well when she comes back to town
after her weeks or months of living next to nature. Her
misgivings about her sunburned hair and tanned cheeks
cause her to be the more meticulous about the gowns In which
she makes her first appearance In her city environs. She wants
her back-to-towta frocks to be smart, of course, but, tvhat is more
Important, they must make her look well nearly her best
Such attire as that worn by the large right-hand figure is an
example of suitability for back-to-town wear. It is a simple yet
smart suit of silk corduroy. The curiously double Jacket is a
decided novelty. A man casting an Idle and speculative eye
Upon it said it suggested to him a waistcoat that had changed its
mind. Another male critic of modes said it seemed to him rather
a coat that had grown tired. It differs from a Norfolk in being
without yoke or plaits. The high belt, however. Is present
Extra sides extend high In the front toward the shoulder seams,
and instead of falling to the hem of the Jacket are caught up and
draped in front and fastened by a large button. The arrange
ment of the buttons is novel. They appear in groups of three
s down the front of the Jacket and the skirt
The middle figure is a straight cloak-like one-piece gown of
dark velvet. It has a collar and cuffs of leopard skin. A high
belt fastened by a velvet buckle appears In front It is fastened
in front by a long row of buttons.
The small upper left-hand figure is a youthful looking one
piece dress of black velvet The lines are girlish. The sash,
fastened at the side and With a long loop and fringed ends. Is a
, note of girlishness. The slightly cutaway bodice front showing
white lace filling, and the wide-ruffle collar accentuate the youth
fulness of the gown.
The lower left-hand figure Is a one-piece dress of light cloth.
It gives the illusion pf being a three-piece suit, its cutaway Jacket
and businesslike belt emphasizing the illusion. But it is really
a smart ally-on gown, convenient for one who wishes to be cor
rectly garbed with small effort
