Butter Trading at
Vanishing Mark
Speculators Are Not Operating and
Future Is Very Uncertain.
. By Hymaa H. Cehea
The butter market never showed a
more uncertain tone with less chance
to report it absolutely correct than at
this time. Even the leading handlers of
butter are unable to say with any de
gree of accuracy what tha general trade
is- , " -. i t
Actual business in the butter market is
practically down to the vanishing point.
Some sales are reported in a small way
to BritishCoiumbia but the local trade
Is quiet so far as cubes are concerned.
Prints are moving out as previously not
ed with tha exceptions of here and there
a showing Of sluggishness.
Since Seattle and other northern mar
kets followed the recent drop in the
Portland price and placed the butterfat
quotation on a parity throughout the
Pacific Northwest, the market has re
flected further weakness. In fact, soma
expectations are for a further drop in
prices. '
Those desiring special information re
garding any market should write the
Market Editor, Oregon Journal, enclos
ing stamp for reply.
