-Indiahapolia, Jnd June 13. As soon
s it was definitely settled Thursday
' afternoon that Portland had been
chosen to .entertain the next meeting of
the Imperial Council Andent Arabic
Order, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, the
.celebration began.
Pacific coast Shriners formed a pa
rade and noon after were joined by the
New Orleans delegation, good losers.
. Ths yelling army marched on the Clay
pool hotel, where the jollification con
tinued. Informal dancing, yelling,
cheering and speeches followed.- The
celebration .was -halted for a time by
the first rain that has come to Indian
apolis this week. The sky cleared, and
with the weather much, cooler the stunts
continued until late this evening when
the Facific coast Nobles entrained for
their homes.

The date for the 1920 convention ,has
been set for Tuesday, June 8. Portland
Shriners have already begun plans for
the big week. ' The last Imperial ctftin
cil that was , west of the Rockies was
held at Seattle In J915. The Oregonians
said that they Would" have to step, how
ever. In order to urpass the conven
tion Just closed, which has been pro
nounced a . decided success and the big
gest ever held. The victory of Portland
over New Orleans was due to hard
work.' . New Orleans was no mean com
petitor and Thursday morning the
Louisiana city seemed strongest' for the
convention. The -oratory of George
Baker,' mayor of Portland, the influ
ence of Judge George Stapleton and
the organization of Harvey Wells, state
Insurance commissioner, helped much
to push the vote for Portland.
New Orleans Shriners laughingly
aid that they would bring the 1921
convention to their city. Portland
heartily seconded this statement. The
southern gentlemen were good losers
and the first to congratulate the North
western campaigners.
"Tell the folks at home that we are
full of pep and are bringing home the
bacon," said . Harvey Wells. A Seattle
Shriner came up and hugged him. "The
stay in Indianapolis has been a great
one," he continued. Mr. Wells was on
the field working for Portland a week
before the convention session opened.
"Are we downhearted?" called the cheer
leader as the Pacific coast patrols
pulled out of the station here. "Hell,
no," was the answering roar. AI Kader
temple was in Illinois when the sun
rone this morning.
Portland won the 1920 Shrine con
vention by a vote of three to one in
th. "greatest battle, in the- history of
Shrlnedom," Mayor Baker wired to bis
secretary, Hal M. White,: today., -
The mayor was one of 1 the. Portland
delegates to the Shrine and 1 went to
New Orleans Lou a. former,, trip "East i
an effort to land the convention for
this city. , ;
He Is now on his way , home ' and is
expected to arrive "Monday.
Huge Counterfeiting
Scheme Hatched in
Leavenworth: Prison

within the walls of Fort Leavenworth
prison is regarded as accomplished to
day as the' result of 16 arrests through
out the country.? . . - -
The scheme involved the printing ef
sub-treasury checks, the for ping of ttj
name of John Skelton Williams, con
troller of currency, and the cashing of
the forged warrants by men released or
escaped from the prison, lit is alleged
that $100,000 worth of the false cer
tificates were printed and that the per
petrators of tha fraud" have realized
nearly $60,000 from their, operations.
Details of the scheme, It is alleged,
were revealed by; the arrest and sub
sequent confession of Robert Jones, an
escaped prisoner from the Fort Leaven
worth disciplinary barracks. Additional
arrests are expected today.
Hospital? Patient

Arthur Cornish, SO, jumped from the
third story window of the Good Samari
tan hospital about 4 o'clock this morn
ing and fractured his" left arm and leg
and Inflicted a deep cut on his face.
Cornish was received Thursday from
Barton, Or. He was to have had a
slight operation performed. Hospital at
tendants say that they had not been
warned of the man's mental condition
and therefore did not take the precau
tion to watch him closely. His condition
is not considered serious..

A highly mysterious entry "was made
on police eoyrt records Thursday morn
ing when A. Jones, once released for
carrying concealed weapons, was ar
rested and voluntarily told officers of
the theft or capture by officers of eight
sacks of liquor, which he was attempt
ing to bring to Portland from . Aurora
for an unidentified person.
Who the "marshal" : is who took the
liquor supply, who the employer of
Jones is and a dozen other such ques
tions are puzzling" the police and Con'
stable Peterson,' who ansted Jones.
Injured in Shipyard
John Kofke, residing near Forty-second
and Fremont streets, was, "knocked down
by a piece of machinery jat the Colum
bia River Shipbuilding pliant Thursday
afternoon. His jaw and one rib are
broken. He is at the Sell wood hospital.

Fox. charged with non-support, has been

the authorities, by which Fox is to pay
the costs of bringing him to Eugene
