With the score 1 to 0 in the last half
of the final inning, three men on bases
and two outs, Harry Avery "pulled the
impossible." which will insure his posi

for many a day. It was in the Portland
Bankers league baseball game on
Vaughn atroet grounds Tuesday after
noon between the United States Na

representatives that Avery caught a line
drivo off tho bat of Errol Wlntcrbotham
which looked good for a triple and
thereby robbed the North westerners of
a 1 to 0, victory.
All the high officials of both banks
were in attendance and it was the larg
est audience that has witnessed a bank
ers contest in several years. Chet Da
vis, twirling for Manager June S. Jones,
was going great guns and allowed but
three hits and whiffed 15 batters in
seven frames. In the east frame he let
the bases get populated with none down
and then had to strike out the next two.
