Produce interests say that benefits
exist as well as detriment as a result
of the. amalgamation of the express
companies. They claim that under pres
ent conditions they are able to secure
refunds on overcharges more promptly
than ever before; in fact, occasionally
receive these refunds when they did
not Know that any overcharge bad been
made. Under the previous management
of the express companies so much red
tape bad to be unwound that it oftimes
tired out the complaining receiver be
fore he was able to secure proper ad
justment of accounts.
That under existing conditions huge
losses are being suffered by the country
shippers! as well as city receivers, Is
the opinion expressed by the trade. They
claim that very few coops of live fowls
arrive without some missing and tHat
crates of dressed poultry are ia many
instances broken open and ther count of
birds shows fewer than had started
from the country. .
This" Is the cause of much friction
between the shipper and the wholesaler.
