Eugene now baa about 200 men sworn In the service of the atatc The four companiea of the Home Guard, numbering 160 men, were aat , night mustered into . the Oregon Ktato Militia by Major John'M. Wll llams, acUng adjutant general. Ray A. Pabn, a Spanish war veteran with regu-t lararmy and national guard experience,' waa chosen aa major of the battalion, and Colonel John Ieadr. of the Royal Jrlah Rifles, wu unanimously, elected as Instructor and Inspector. That these companiea were organized and drilled Is due largely to the nthusiasm and tease less work of Colonel Leader, who has been ably backed by Major Babb and wiany others. I I Goodrich was elect ed lieutenant and adjutant of the bat talion and the following company offi cer were chosen : Company A. captain, W. W. Bran atetter; first lieutenant, E. K. Horning; Second lieutenant, Berrlan Dunn. Company B. captain. El win McCor mick; first lieutenant, Claude Gray; second lieutenant, A. E. Brlgham. Clark. - In addition to these four companies. Sheriff D. A. Elklns' company of armed and drilled , deputies of about 40 men makes a total of 200 men In the city now in the state service. Scald liquid, then cool to lukewarm. Soften yeast in this. Add Holly Rice and Milk with Salt, Sugar and Lard. Beat well. Add flour gradually until stiff enough to knead.. Knead until very smooth and elastic, thnen,let rise until slightly more than dou ble in bulk. Shape into loaves. Whtfn a little more than twice its original size, bake from 50 minutes to one hour. This bread will keep fresh and moist for days, and will be found the most palatable -and nourish ing table fopd ever set (before the consumer.
