CARELESS CONDUCT IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS IS WELL ILLUSTRATED v Newton McCoy, Attorney for School Board, Failed to Turn in Money Paid to Him. The neglect of Newton McCoy, acting as attorney for- the - school board, to satisfy a judgment fetter the money had been paid to him for that purpose more than our years ago, points to the care lessness often found In the transaction of public business and to the difficul ties that often follow attempts to pro tect the public interest In 1814. when the school board was planning to purchase, at a price all out of proportion to the value of surround ing property, a tract of ground upon which to construct the Franklin high school, a suit to enjoin the board was filed by C S. Jackson, asking that the board be restrained from making the purchase at such an excessive figure. The injunction was denied on technical grounds and costs amounting to $64.10 were assessed against the plaintiff. This amount was paid to Newton McCoy, the attorney for the school board, on March 13. 1914. Recently, in completing an abstract of title, it was discovered that the Judg ment had never been satisfied by McCoy, though four years had, passed since he had been paid the money Frown on German ns in General Big Reealrei Places of Patriotic Tlgilasee Leaf as Teat Offeaslve 5ih a Batlaect GIts "Way. f hniali Miunnti. atorea business houses of whatever sort that bear Germanesque names, are oeins frowned upon by members of a new organisation which styles itseu m - I Patriotic Vigilance League. - This or- " . - - . 1 t A I. ...
