Is charged that the Crocker drug store, along with numerous others in Portland, has : been selling a so-called tonlo , composed chiefly of California port wine with an ounce or two of olive oil. According to Special Agent Geren, who had it analysed,, there is about 6 per cent of oil In the prepara tion. - : The "tonic" has been freely sold In Portland durlsg recent months, and in vestigation has disclosed how the olive oil 1s siphoned from each quart bottle, leaving straight port wine for the thirsty purchasers. ; r At the Crocker drug store, Geren said, a number of empty bottles were found. showing where the oil had! been drained off.' A dozen quarts of. the tonks were confiscated., and , a i charge of selling liquor placed against Crocker. The fluid Is.' manufactured by the J. Irving; Proud company 'of; Lbs Angeles. Glass, manager of the Boston Sample Shoe Store, will leave today for Washington in response to a call irom the Y. M. It is probable that he will remain at Washington for some time to acquaint himself more fully with the duties he will be called upon to perform, and then sail directly for France. As a war measure, added interest attaches to the movement.
