That Oregon anHother Northwest . holdings
of cattle on feed are somewhat below those of
a year ago notwithstanding the government re
port Indicating an increase, is the report that
is being constantly brought to this city by
raiser and feeder of th interior. In line with
what owner have reported is the assertion of
O. K. Shoemaker of Mitchell, who waa in the
North Portland yard this week with supplies
bt ought in by way of Condon.
"There is pot so much cattle on feed in
the interior," says Mr. Shoemaker, "because of
the fear of stockmen that they would have
another hard winter and, therefore, would not
have - sufficient hay."
Cattlemen say that if there wa a greater
uppiy 01 stock than a year ago h extreme
price that have recently been in effect would
never have been reached.
Swine Market li Steady
With only a very small run reported in th
North Portland yard for th day the market
for hog was considered ateady around former
price levels.
Change of sentiment wa shown in th east
ern trade during the1 day with sharp advances
noted in the price at practically all points eaat
of the Rockies. It begin to look aa U the
big buyers- have made a killing as a result of
