only, in Portland but throughout Oregon
will : need the services of many men and
women. Believeing there are a number
- Of such persons but that many are dif
fident about offering their services or do
not know 'where to apply . the bureau
has adopted the advertisement as a
means of listing all who offer patriotic
service.
"The treasury department is about to I
' undertake in Oregon one of its biggest!
moves of the war, said the government
.official. "While we have a number of
volunteers we need more to complete
our organization and we need particu
larly1 vthe ervioes of ex-buslness men
. and. women. The . work will consume
about a year and we are organizing the
Portland bureau to be one of small
daily tasks. - something that will give
cacti one accepted for service something
to do' for a half hour to two hours dally, j
depending on . just how much service the
applicant can give... The work Is modern
: business and we believe can be accom
plished by former stenographers, book-1
- keepers and clerks.
"The headquarters .In Portland will
be formally opened In a few days and
the campaign launched . but , we need
workers. We have offers of services
from business men and others, who
have In the' past aided the Red Cress,
- ths T. M.' C.A. and Liberty loan drives.
. but they are whirlwind campaigns, while
what, we are now planning Is a long.
