Piling Stops 65 Feet Down
Teat piling driven for the four-way
shipyard at Marsbfleld struck bottom
at 66 feet, according- to word from
there. This la considered a very
satisfactory depth for foundation pur
poses. Two large pilings are first
driven In a straight 40 feet and on
. top Is set a shorter length and driven
down. The last strokes of the big one
ton hammer moves the pilings down
only an inch at a time.

John McDonald, agitator and said to
be the editor of a radical periodical
published in Seattle, was arrested Sun
day afternoon at the close of an open
air meeting he was holding in Lonsdale
aquare opposite the courthouse, by
Police Captain Harms. At the station.
McDonald waa booked on two charges,
violating the billpostlng ordinance by
passing out handbills without a li
cense, and for using profane lcxguace
ln a public place.
McDonald put up J2S0 ball on tne

into the hands of the police at the
close of his meeting, which was at
tended by about 1500 men, who Jam
med the central part of the square.

She notified the men at the locker
house, but the body cculd not be found.
He was Identified by letters found in
his clothes. He resides at 1642 Dela
ware avenue with his two sisters,
Hilda Paulson and Mrs. M. Barnett.
His mother lives at Jeffersor, Or.
He left home Sunday morning, tell
ing his sister he was going to the
Oaka, but later ln the day appeared at
Columbia beach with Miss Frost, who
lives at 34S Harrison street. Miss
Frost was the only witness to the
drowning, and became hysterical when

An attempt was made to lynch Frank
Lemonte, an attorney and candldat
for mayor on the Socialist ticket of
Evansville, on a country road near
this city Saturday midnight.
Lamonte. who has been making
peeches throughout southern Indiana
ln which he la said to have attacked
he selective draft and the national
administration, spoke at Elberfeld,
Ind. Saturday night, about 20 miles
north of here six young men from this
lty went to Elberfeld In an automo
bile and it is said it was their purpose
to lynch Lamonte. They gave chase
to the automobile in which Lamonte,
wife, baby and two friends were rU
lng.
They overtook the machine and com
manded Lamonte to get out. The man
in Lamonte's car, however, opened the
throttle of the car and made good his
escape, and the people took refuge In a
farmhouse, where they spent the night.
Feeling, where Lamonte haa spoktti
against the draft, is said to be bitter.

and plant of Stoddard Bros. Lumber

Saturday, almost before the fire was
out. Ashbrook was seen by Jackson
entering the yard Just before the
fire, and coming out Just before the
alarm sounded. As he had been un
der suspicion ln a former fire there,
and waa a' discharged employe, Jack
son immediately went by auto to
Aahbrook's home, arrivfhg there first.
He charred Ashbrook with setting
the fire, but the latter denied he
