ENDEAVOR
WILL UNDERTAKE WAR

Members Will Do Their "Bit,"
Cooperating With Red Cross,
and Army Dept. Y. M. C, A.
EXTENSIVE PLANS MADE
Comforts ana KcreattoB Facilities
Will Be Provided for Those Called
to the rroat.
Recently a war service committee
was appointed in the Multnomah
County Christian Endeavor Union, to
make arrangements for whatever serv
ice the Endeavorera of the union may
be able to render In the present war.
Many of the Endeavorers are in the
home guard, others have- enlisted In
the regular army and navy, or the
other branches of active service, and
yet others will be called Into the serv
ice of their country. It is the En
deavorers desire to do their "bit" to
help in the great emergency now con
fronting our nation, so this committee
was formed to cooperate with the local
Ited Cross society and army depart
ment of the T. M. C A.
The work of this committee beat
been divided into two sections; one
will work in conjunction with the Red
Cross society, aiming to Increase the
membership of this society as far as
possible and to help with the sewing,
providing comfort bags for the boys,
and providing bandages and hospital
necessities and outflttlngs.
The other work of the committee ls
in conjunction with the army depart
ment of the T. M. C. A. Thie has a
greater variety of work, much of
which ls within the scope of every En
deavor society. The plan ls to erect
large buildings at the encampment of
troops while they are In training, and
to follow them to the front when they
are ordered to Europe. For these build
ings the department needs a variety
of equipment and for the outdoor
sports connected with them; In that
connection the Endeavor eocletles are
endeavoring to secure outfits for base
ball, basket ball, volley ball, quoits for
outdoor sports, and checkers, chess and
the like for Indoor amusement during
the winter months, with perhaps a pho
nograph or Victrola for each "hut"
or building. Other things such as '
hymn books, old magazines and books
will also be secured. The war service
committee will use the Y. M. C. A. as
a clearing house for Information, so
that by means of the local Y. M. C. A.
of this city, parents and friends of
those enlisted can get In touch with
the boys wherever they are.
The Endeavorers of I'ortland " will
Interest themselves especially In the
Clackamas encampment and the Fort
Vancouver barracks, with as much as
sistance, of course, as they can give
to the encampment at American Lake.
