Enlistments Rreak Record
San Francisco, June 5. (P. N. S.)
Registration in San Francisco began
early and proceeded throughout the
morning hours without the slightest in
dication of trouble or demonstration.
Extra forces of police and federal
guards weae stationed in various por
tions of the city, but to all appearances
their services were not needed.
Army and navy recruiting offices
were swamped with applications, hun
dreds of men apparently considering it
wise to enlist voluntarily, thereby
placing themselves in position to select
any arm of the service desired, rather
than take the chances of the draft.
Yesterday was a big day in recruit
ing, breaking all records, and today was
expected to exceed yesterday s record.
