Toungson, will v preside. ' ' The Deaconess home at 815 - East Flanders, was finished in January, 116. and Is valued at approximately 1SO0O. The building is three stories high, with a full basement. In -ijie v. basement there is the furnace, laun- dry, fruit room and "poor closet." The last named Is used to store articles of v clothing given to the deaconesses for vuse among the poor. - . Some for Deacoaeaaeav ' The first floor resembles a home. . "t,pon entering; one sees a sun room and can smell the sweet odor from this . - flowers. This room Is also used as the sewing room. A spacious living - room with a fireplace and piano greets the eye next and then the dining room and a well arranged kitchen. A small office Js also on this floor off of the front hall. The second floor has six : bedrooms and the thkwr floor three. At the rear of the hqme-on the sec ond floor Is a large seeping porch. The home Is not a school but is a - home for the eight deaconesses who work-in. the- Oregon conference. The workers receive their schooling In the accredited ' schools of the church and - are appointed to their work In much ' the same manner as a minister "is to . a church. - 1 The home was started by persons who bought the lot and gave it to the , church to be. used for this purpose. -This first step was taken about three years ago. Donations from the mem ' bershlp of the church has given the remainder necessary to complete the - building, which was built especially for a deaconess home. The building v is well lighted and has a homelike arf3 . . pleasing appearance. ' Ctarcbes Support Beacoaeases. As chairman of the committee , on the Chapman-Alexander revival campaigns, ne proved his power for good, far be yond the Immediate circle of his own congregation. Rebuilding the church at Knoxville, Tenn.. which was destroyed by fire, was due to his persistent encourage ment and help. .
