Chamber to Vote on
Industrial Measures
Beferemdam of All Members 'Win Be
Bald to Give State legislators Bass,
nesemea's Opinion of Proposed Bills.
Directors of the Chamber of Com
merce yesterday afternoon decided to
call a referendum vote of the members
of the chamber on Industrial legisla
tion that is proposed to be offered to
the state legislature this spring. The
result of the referendum will be sent
to the legislators as a guide to the
opinion of the businessmen of Port
land on the measures.
A committee will be appointed by
President Clark to secure proposed
bills and put them Into brief form,
convenient for the referendum vote.
This committee will meet with other
sub-committees which have been gath
ering data on proposed legislation and
will secure from them the (1st of their
Information. Other Interests which
are advocating special legislation on
such subjects will be asked to fur
nish data on their proposed measures.
Ex-Japanese Consul
Now at Home Office
K. Kumasakl, former Japanese con
sul in Portland, Is now serving in the
foreign office at Toklo, according to
announcementa which he has mailed to
Portland friends, in which, he alao
thanks them for kindnesses and hos
pitality accorded him during his stay
in Portland. ' Kumaaakl left Portland
several months ago, and during the 'n
terlm, up until two weeks ago. when
S. Akmatsu, former acting conaul-gen-eral
at New York, arrived here to suc
ceed him, Mr. Oomyo, secretary, filled
the position. Regret Is expressed n
Kumasakl'a note that ciroumstancea
terminated his atay in Portland, and
he concludea by wishing all a merry
Christmas and "many happy New
Years."
