Statement Made That Conway fc
BJ.cb.a-t Were Bent to Mc Hall Island
In Oregon Inland Case Incorrect.
In The Journal of Thursilay, January
13, appeared a news story relative to
tho opening of the trial in federal
court of H H. Rlddell, secretary of the
defunct Oregon Inland Development
company, a real estate concern, the
charge being that of using the mails to
del rand.
The story said that Riddell was
charged with being involved in "trans
actions for which J. T. Conway and
Frank Richet. genera manager and
president of the company, were sent to
the federal penitentiary ut McNeil
Island."
The Journal was in error to the ex
tent that Conway and Richet did not
go to McNeil island. They were lound
guilty of a mall-fraud vliarge. Richet
was given county Jail sentence and a
fine. Conway was sentenced t serve
three months in Jail, but n petition of
a large number of Portland people was
pardoned by Preslden t AYl!on before
the expiration of his se-nce.
