Cranberries Show
A Firmer Feeling
In the Home Trade
Selected Ilwavco Stock Comes For
ward -and Meets With Good
Demand. Along Street.
, Market for cranberries fs showing consider
able strength along Front street, and prices
are holdlna; somewhat firmer. Some eitra
fancy local berrlea are reported In by the
trade, and are of quality somewhat better
than, sny of the former eastern shipments to
the local njtrket.
Tlfp price for thee ta being helit generally
t $10.:) a barrel, compared with tll-SO
the price fet for the next arrlvala of late
keeping berrlea from the east. lricp corn
ered with the local stock Is far superior to
the eaatern berrlea; In fact, from all com
parisons, are better.
Local trade somewhat resents the recent
Inainuationa of fcn llwaco fancier that the
trade here waa not giving the local berries a
square deal, and was pure-busing the eastern
berries in preference. According to leader
of tbe trade, there ia nothing in the eltuation
to justify such" an accusation, the failure of
the trade to have stocks of home grown
berriea beirg due entirely to lack of -proper
selling niet,ioU of the local producer. This
l&tter eoiKlition 1 likely the result of the
former ilu.ll production and the ability of
growers to nuirket their prodjet heretofore
wlUwut much difficulty.

Sharp Gains Again
Made in Chicago
Wheat Option Bids
Chicago. Dec. fi. t. V. 3.) Wheat cloned
2S-'i.ir above Saturday. The bulls got busy
early today In the grain pit. This wsa un
doubtedly a result of the extremely bullish
close on Saturday and the failure of any Im
portant development to cause a reaction.
With tbe public on the buying side on a bl;
scale. It is said, there la no tellln" what levels
will be strained for wheat. It will take some
sensational bush news to bring a change.
Corn bulla say that the cratry as a whole
I not aware of the calamity which haa be
fallen tbe crop. They ezpect to see only
minor reductions. It waa noticeable Saturdsy
that the beat sellers on tbe recent bnlges were
the best buyers on the early break. Activity
in wheat. It Is claimed, la detracting in corn
and oats on tbe part of the public. Inquiries
were sharp for Manitoba wheat. Country of.
ferlngs of 'winter wheat are light, and the
spring wheat marketings, while heavy, are
meeting with a general demand, which makes
the accumulation of atock difficult.
Iecember obeat opened it $1.18 orr a

While thntp advancea have been forced In
the price of practllally all eastern flours sell
ing in this market, no change la shown In
local patent, or even contemplated at the mo
ment. The situation, however, Is somewhat
firmer, and It Is-quite possible that an advance
will be forced here, especially as the eastern
stock cannot compete with the local product
this season.
Wheat market Is mixed In character. Clil
cayo reached a new hiU recisrd early, but
later was down a fructiou.
Isrally the wb"at market ia extremely
quiet, although iucltued to snow a itomewbat
stronger feeling. The only bearish feature In
sight in the Pacific nortnneat la the higher
rates being demanded for freights along the
Atlantic const. yulte ralr movement from
Interior Oregon, Idaho and Washington points
continues to the east for transshipment to Eu
rope, bnt the buyluj la confined entirely to
small lots because of the general holding
tendency among the bigger producers.
Mlllstuffs market la generally quoted steady
by millers, with a continuance of tbe good
movement to California.
Oats and barley masaeta are quiet, bnt
deaiers are said to be absorbing more oata
than reported.
