Tha annual Thanksgiving open air
paper chase of the Portland Hunt club
will be held Thursday morning at 10
o'clock. Tha winner will become the
holder of the Thanksgiving cup. The
event Is scheduled to start near the
clubhouse at Garden Home. Mrs. A.

led by their band serpentined around

A huge bomb was exploded and a
shower of green confetti floated all
over the field and bleachers. Another
bofnb was exploded and a huge ring
of black smoke, representing 3. A. CX's
score formed in tho sky. Then Oregon
gave away to the Aggies, who were
clad in uniforms and armed with
lance decorated with O. A. C. flags.
Their band started up and the Cadets
marched in open formation and
drilled in Butt's Manual exercises to
th music of the band, fully 500 Ca
dets taking part. The Aggies' stunt
made a hit and they were heartily
cheered by the Oregon rooters.

Oregon punted on first down for 35
yards to Yeager. who was downed in
his tracks. Abraham made four yards
through center. The ball is so wet
and the field so muddy they fumble
almost every play. Allen made three
yards around left end. Time out. It's
raining harder than ever.
Locey fumbled, but recovered
with no gain. Billle punted to Mon
teith who returned the ball 12 yards.

when Mitchell tripped Abraham. Hofer

The California football situation
has many sides to it. Stanford, ac
cording "to information received from
a reliable source, will not give up the
eld game. The Univeristy of Califor
nia will stick to the American game,
ab will the University of Southern Cal
ifornia. Santa Clara, it is said, wants
to return to the American game.
Rumors that California and Stan
ford will get together before the 1918
football season are heard every day
in San Francisco. These rumors are
emphatically denied by the officials
of the two Institutions.
There Is one thing that is certain
in football affairs in the south, and
that is that the University of Cali
fornia will have a new roach next sea
son. Coach Jimmy Schaeffer of the
Klue and Gold squad was unmercifully
Tanned" by the football writers and
followers of the game for his poor
showing in the first game with Wash
ington, but after his proteges came
back and held California to a 13-7
score there was no end to the paens
of praise. But just the same, there
will be a change.
It is understood that tho athletic
association of the University of Cal

cial.) Whitman college is preparing
for a battle In Moscow Thanksgiving
day to keep out of the cellar position
of the northwest college conference.
Last year the University of Idaho and
Whitman fought it out Thanksgiving
day in thia city, and Whitman lost.
This year the missionaries are de
termined to have at least one win with
their string of defeats.
Whitman will have the best team in
the field she has had this year, and
Coach Vincent Borleake Is hapeful that
he will be able to drub tho Muscovites.
Green at the beginning of the year, the
eleven now has experience, and with a
rest of nearly two weeks, will be In
condition to give th best possible ac
count of Itself.

noon, for the second time this sea
son, by a score of II to 0.
The game today decided the hlRh
school championship of Crook county.
The game was plsyed In a driving
rain, and the heavy backfield of the
local aggregation.
Thanksgiving day Prlneville will
send over a team of former colled
players, and it Is expected that the
game will be one of the closest ever
played here, as the competing teams
are practicing dally. It has been
four years since Bend has had a
Tlmnksglvlng game, and from pre"

taking an active Interest in the pros
lsectlve class of motorboats to be UMed
as submarine chasers In case of war,
which some eastern enthusiast pro
pose building. The only thing the
government Is expected to furnish are
certain specifications covering scant
lings, speed required and weight of
armament. Although" larger guns
have been mentioned. It is generally

prove efficient, and a speed of at least
