Hlgginbotbam's good pitching and a
home run by Dave Hillyard put yes
terday's game in the win column for
the Portland Beavers. 5 to z. At no
time, except in the fourth when the
locals tied it up, was Higginbotham in
any kind of trouble.
Portland got off to a two run lead
In the third, when Bobby Davis, who
is enjoying a hitting streaic, came
through with a single to left. Right
behind him came Stumpf with a two
bagger' against the fence and Davis
was home. Then Bates lifted "7a. high
fly to Ness and the latter dropped the
ball, giving Stumpf a chance to
score.
Jack Ness made up for his error fn
the fourth frame in fine shape. John
ston started with a bunt toward third
and beat the ball out. Ness came
along with a home run over the right
field fence and the count was tied.
Gardner filed to Lober but , Kuan
singled and Guest doubled, making
four hits for the frame, but Litscbi
couldn't deliver a hit that would
mean more runs.
Portland finished it un In th afrth
Bates hit the fence and went to third
on Fisher's single through short.
Gardner retrieved the ball and made a

his team dropping games at the
rate of one a day and two on days
when a double header is played, and
himself losing money faster than, his
team lost ball games. Joshua King
ham, owner of the Victoria baseball
club in the Northwestern league, has
surrendered his franchise! Kingham
stood the gaff for more 'than a year
but when his players refused to act

the sponge and ragged his mangled
purse out of the ring.
For the present the Victoria team
will continue to play its scheduled
games, President Robert- Blewett hav
ing assured, the players that the
league will guarantee their salaries.
The club has lost ten straight
games, dropping from the leadership
of the league to a bad fourth.
The Vancouver club, which sent out
S. O. S. calls a few .days ago, has been
rescued by the British Columbia elec
tric railway company and will con
tinue to hold its franchise.
