Two items of baseball interest
crapped up last night, the probability
of Portland, gettlws Pitcher George
Kahler from Cleveland and San Fran
cisco purchasing -. Pitcher Dent from
the. .'Atlanta club of . the Southern
league.-
Marry Wolverton" is sure of his
man, while "Walter McCredie is still
tip In the air. AlcCredie has been
angling for Kahler for the last six
months, lie tried ail last winter to
get him and has oecn working on
Cleveland thiB spring. The big pitch
er. McCredie said this morning, is
willing to come out, but Cleveland is
experiencing difficulty in getting
waivers on him. McCredie stated
that ho was not sure whether Kahler
would come or not. He thinks there
is a chance that he will have to go
through, the, season with the present
list of pitchers.
Wolverton says that Dent will join
the Seals immediately, reporting prob
aBly next week in San Francisco.
Harry knew him In Newark in 1912.
seeing him pitch one game after he
had been sent to the International
league from Brooklyn. Dent, a right
hander, won 15 and lost 12 last year
for Atlanta. WOlvy thinks the addition
of Dent will round out his pitching
staff nicely.
McCredie, in last night's Green
sheet, took occasion to dany that he
had thought of releasing - Harry
Krause. He said that a San Fran
cisco newspaper man astiea mm nuw
his pitcher's were, going and Mac re
marked badly. The scribe also asked
him if he was going to get another
-man and Mac replied that hewas try
ing to land a righthander. The scribe
rnosfi that Krause was going to be
released. Krause, always a late
starter, will stick with the Beavers,
asserts McCredie. He said that he
has not thought of releasing Harry,
as he is under the player limit and
can add one man.
. Judge McCredie also stated in last
night's sporting extra that Boston
would be given a chance to tryout Bill
Kodgers. as the player requested, but
with the stipulation that if Rodgers
njade good Boston was to pay the
draft price of $2500 for BUI. The
judge wired the Red Box at St. Lou 1b
last night, as they requested, but
Manager Carrlgan evidently did not
get the message. A reply is expected
some time today.

TWO NEW MAKES
MAY BE MADE IN
HI SCHOOL MEET
Schmitt Expected . to Lower
440 Yard Record in
Competition.
Two new records are expected in the
annual lnterseholastic track and field
championships to be staged Friday
afternoon on Multnomah field at 2
O'clock.
Eugene Schmitt, Columbia's uni
versity's Quarter miler, who forced
elouse, the Medford high school run
ner, to set a new mark in the 440-yard
run at Eugene recently, is expected
to set a new local record for the event
and it ia likely that the high Jump
mark of 5 feet 8 inches, held by W.
Muirhead, will be bettered. Murphy,
the Columbia university high Jumper,
cleared 5 feet f$ inches in the state
meet and should do better here.
The officials of the Portland Inter

ord breaking crowd, provided the rain
does not interfere with meet.
