A STREET SCENE IN THE HAGUE
Holland remains neutral, but her ultimate participation in the war is freely predicted, and with decisive effect- This photograph, however, was taken in The Hague after
the mobilization of the Dutch army had been ordered and the presence of so many soldiers in the streets of the city, whose very name suggests peace among nations, is par
adoxical, indeed. The thronged street suggests intense if subdued excitement, and all are wondering what the outcome of it all will be.
A DUTCH SENTRY
A sentry on the Holland-Belgium frontier is here seen as well as
the thatched hut in which he can seek shelter from the elements.

BELGIAN SOLDIERS INTERNED IN HOLLAND
For two days preceding their arrival in Holland, these men were without food. They are seen
making up for their lost opportunity, however, even though their diet seems to consist chiefly of bread.

Grim comment on the futility of war is contained in this photograph, which shows a trio of Belgian infantrymen returning to head
quarters with the rifles and other equipment of some of their comrades who have been slain in action.

BELGIAN CAVALRYMAN SNATCHES A BIT OF SLEEP
And while so doing he is performing his soldierly duties as well, since King Albert's cavalrymen ride in groups of four, and when a
halt is called, all dismount, leaving one of the four to hold the horses. Which detail, by the, way. is not so bad for a tired man.
DUTCH CAVALRYMEN
Whether or not they are called into war, Holland's cavalrymen are in readiness to defend their
country. This body of horsemen is among the best in Europe, it is generally conceded.
