Representatives of a number of wo men's organizations are interested In getting through the next legislature a law authorizing women to act as Jurors in the circuit court. They have submitted a draft of a bill to Repre sentative 8. B. Huston, who did not approve it, but instead drafted a measure -embodying his ideas. A com mittee was appointed by Chairman Lit tlefield of too Multnomah delegation Monday night to consider and report on the two measures. Mr. Huston's bill gives a woman the same jury privileges as a man. It provides that a juror must be a tax payer or the wife or husband of a tax payer. The jury list may be made up ot names taken from the tax rolls and ''registration lists of the county or from any other official source of Informa tion. Any woman desiring to be ex cused from Jury duty may claim ex emption by serving a written notice upon the sheriff before the date for appearance. Any person serrtng any summons for jury service upon a wo man Is required to inform her of this provision. The measure submitted to Mr. ITns ton by the womendoes not Impose the qualification of being a taxpayer or the wife or husband 6f a taxpayer. It provides further that "where a female is on trial for a criminal offense under the laws of the state of Oregon, or where a person under the age of 21 years Is on trial for a criminal of fense, or where a female or a person under the age of 21 years is the com plaining witness or an Injured party, or in any case Involving the delin quency of children, in each eases a part of the jury shall be females." r . Lively Session Is Expected. When the Multnomah legislative delegation next Monday night holds its last regular meeting prior to the convening of the legislature there is . promise of a lively session. The ab sorbing topic probably wiU be the question of consolidation and elimina tion of state boards and commissions and departments. A special committee was appointed ' several weeks ago to give considera tion to this subject. The members of the committee are Senator I. N. Day and Representatives S. B. Cobb and Loyd J. Wentworth. So far the com mittee has been unable to agree on the scope a bill for consolidations should cover. - Senator Day favors an almost en ' tire reorganization of state affairs, dividing tiie state government into 14 departments. The other members ot the oopamittee are not so sure that such a sweeping reorganization would be the best thing at this time. The "'members of the committee hope to agree on a. report before the next meeting of the delegation. Senator .Day is positive in bis Ideas of re organization and said be was ready to report last Monday night "only the other members of the committee were so stubborn." Under Senator Day's plan state af fairs would be conducted by the fol lowing departments: Executive de partment, department of state, depart ment ox xinanoa, department or jus tice, railroad commission, department ' of education, department of labor, de partment of health, department of agriculture,- department of animal In dustry, department, of forestry, state .board of control, state land board and board of fish and game commiasion "' era. ' ' , - -. :,' :".; y All other boards and departments would b merged with' these, aeoord - Ing to the similarity of their duties.
