This photograph shows gun intrenchments erected by the Germans near Rheims, which were hurriedly abandoned when
the kaiser's men retreated. Great excavations have been made in the midst of a harvest field to provide protected places for
the field guns which, however, were not; abandoned when the army withdrew.
