He is suffering from a compound fracture of the femur, sus tained in a fall down a steep hillside. He was first taken to a hospital in Alaska, but because of limited X-ray facilities was brought here for more extended examination and treatment. Play Is Benefit for German Bed Cross Production at "Dentsche Haas" This Evening Promises to Be Real Xangb Maker, It Is Said, A beautiful little play of four acts, based on war and some of its happy consequences, will be given at the fine auditorium of the "Deutsche Haus" on Thirteenth street between Main and Jefferson streets, this evening. The play exemplifies actual inci dents which happened 'during the war of 1870-1871, between Germany and France. The play is so full of human interest, that all who attend, it is pre dicted, will have many a hearty laugh. s All Germans are particularly invited to attend. The play is given under the aus pices of the Woman's Auxiliary of the German Red Cross society. A special price of 25 cents has been made for all high school students. Performance starts promptly at 8:15 p. m. Tickets are for sale at Aben droth's Jewelry store, Sherman Clay building. Sixth and Morrison streets, and at R. Adams' Novelty store, 344 Alder street. Massachusetts Society. The Mas sachusetts society met at the Com mercial club last night and played Maxamaa to Hike. For .their Sun day trip, the Mazamas will hike along the Skyline road between Miller sta tion and Burlington, on the United Railway, along the Willamette river below Portland. Multnomah field, October -S. Artist Makes Talk. Frank Vincent Du Mond spoke at the Reed college assembly yesterday at 11 o'clock. Mr. Du Mond is one of the mural decora tors of the Panama-Pacific exposi tion, and spoke of his work in that line. He mentioned several points in the way of the artistic development of the exposition which would maki them more interesting to the students who see them. Pain Only Witnessed Accident. G. B'rank Paine, of 310 Pine street, stren uously denies that he was involved in any way in the auto smashup at the intersection of Park and Stark streets Tuesday morning. The Civic League theets tomorrow in the Multnomah hotel at luncheon to consider six taxation measuers be fore the people. Charles V. Galloway, one of the state tax commloners, will speak in favor of the two tax meas ures submitted by the legislature; George Mason, secretary of the Non partisan league, will speak in favor of the bill providing for a special tax commission and against the 11500 ex emption measure. Alfred D. Cridge. secretary of the Home Tax Exemption league that proposed the $1500 ex emption measure, will advocate that measure and oppose the tax commis sion measure, one of the tax measures submitted by the legislature, and the two-thirds majority tax measure.
