Or., Oct. 16. Dr. Stewart, coach of the Oregon Agricultural college's football team, received a - telegram from Leland R. Sackett, manager of Willamette university's team, saying that the Salem eleven, with 200- en thuslastic rooters, would arrive at Corvallls Saturday morning. The new athletic field will also be dedicated Saturday. From all outward appearances it looks as though the Methodists are preparing to duplicate the defeat ad ministered to the University of Ore gon last fall, when it is realized that nearly the whole student body of the institution will accompany the team in an effort to root it on to victory. A glance at the Aggie hospital list and an afternoon's review - of ' the varsity squad on the scrimmage grid iron would show that Willamette s hopes are well founded, and that they stand a good chance of bearing heavy fruit. EverytWng is in readiness for the first big game, of the season between the Varsity and Albany col lege elevens, which will be played on the home field tomorrow. It will be the first appearance this season of the working machine of Coach Yakel, and many surprises are .expected from tha new, yet speedy squad which has been developed in the few weeks of prac tice. .. A few of last year's monogram men'will be in line, but all are having a hard time in maintaining their places against the consistent playing of some or the recruits, and as yet Coach Yakel will, make no definite statements as to the probable lineup of Saturday's clash. Several of the men are on the hos pital list yet, and probably will be out of the fray this week. Stanley, Lucas and Parker of the new men. and Cap tain Tupper, Ireland and Frost, among last years stars, are particularly strong,- and are expected to put up an aggressive clash between the schools on the Albany gridiron resulted in a 20-19 victory for the Varsity, and al though hopes are high for a more de cisive win this year, the dope Is still a little uncertain. Up to the present, Willamette uni versity has failed to sign for arrange ments for the annual game between the two schools, and although several letters have been sent from the mana ger and coach here, they have been en tirely disregarded by the Sale mi tea, un til it has become evident that, for rea sons unknown here, the Methodists will hot meet the local lads. The hesitancy and apparent refusal of Willamette to meet Pacific has caused no end of comment here, and until something definite is learned. November C will be an open date for the Varsity. behind the line, Bissett and Huntley are still intact on the wings, with "Hungry" Smyth , and Cole as side kicks at tackle. Moore and either "Dad" King or Watson or Selph will pair off at the guard position, and Anderson at center.
