tion of the rescue and protective worn
being done' by Rev., W. G. MacLaren.

those who have heard and seen it.

set for this morning of the petition
of Linn ton residents for revocation of
the franchise of the United Railways
on the St. Helens road was indefinite
ly postponed when it was announced
that affidavits would be presented by
the petitioners setting out their side
of the case. These affidavits will be
presented to District Attorney Evans
when filed, and he will advise 'the
county commissioners as to their au
thority to take any action in the
matter.

are doing the same thing," said Mu
nicipal Judge Stevenson this morning.

Herman J. Kasper was allowed J236.50
damages by a jury In Circuit Judge
McGinn's court this morning in his
suit against William Gruhlke and wife
for $5252 damages as the result of
being bitten by . the Gruhlke dog. He
alleged that he was protecting hfs
own dog from assault by the Gruhlke
dog. The Gruhlkes alleged that the
accident was due to Kasper's own
negligence;
Sealer Is Arrested. For selling
short weight sugar, Frank Vincent,
of the Washington public market, -was
arrested this morning in the municipal
court, the trial being set for Monday
morning at 10 o'clock. E. D. Jones,
city sealer, signed the complaint
against Vincent, after investigating
the report that: Mrs. Chitty, of 328
Grant street, was' given short weight
sugar. .
Wants Share of Estate. To recover
a one eighth share in the estate of
Mary D. I Barnhart, who died May
tl, 1910, Dorothy A. Calef, 17 years
old, yesterday started suit through her
mother and guardian, Florence D. Ca
lef, against Maria A. Smith, Sarah C
Latham, Ben C. Holladay, Linda H,
Wood and Almira C Wood. The first
two defendants were sisters of Mrs.
Barnhart and the others a nephew and
nieces. The sisters, the complaint al
leges, were entitled to one quarter of
the estate each, and . the others one
eighth each She alleges that as she
was a granddaughter , of Mrs.. Barn
hart's sister, she should receive one
eighth &s her share. She alleges that
the estate is worth $41,604.50.

Jail Escape Surrenders. Charles E.
Spencer grew tired of hiding from
officers of the law and gave himself
up last evening to the police. Two
months ago Spencer broke Jail at
Klamath Falls, where he was held on
a charge of selling liquor to the In
dians. Making his way out of the
country on a horse said to have been
stolen for that purpose. Spencer cams

automobile of C. H. Wheeler and autb

a wheel and fender, while the truck
was not damaged. The accident was
