The Kelly clannmen are gathering In
Tort land aal" for tlieir l?th annual
reunion, which will bo hld 'at the old
homestead of J a. men O. Kelly, on the
Feci Ion Line road, near Kelly Butte,
Saturday, iune 27.
One hundred members of the clan
arc expected to be in attendance at the
gathering this year. The clan Is com
posed of about 350 persons, conHiating
of . men, women and children residing
In the ataten of OreROn, Washington
and California. Infanta In arms and
venerable pioneers will be Keen at the
Teunlon, and the historian of the clan.
Miss Nellie Fawcett, will read from
the pages of the pant the deeds and in
cidents of family life that have become
part and parcel of the worthy descend
ants of the original four Kelly trail
Mazers Clinton Kelly, Albert Kelly,
Oil mure Kelly and Thomas Kelly.
These progenitors have departed thU
life, but their family tree Is still very
mtichraUve, and Its tranches are con
tinually replenished with the young
buds of the new generation.

ings of the Kelly Clan has become so
arduous a task that it is necessary for
designated, certain members to Jot
down a complete record of the happen
ings a they occur, lest they forget.
Marriages, deaths, births and gradua
tions are noted each year. If It were
necessary the secretary, Agnes Kelly,

Just how many,' able-bodied men there
are among the Kellys on whom Uncie
Kam could depend In war time.
Numbers of the professions are rep
resented. If the Keily Clan should so
desire. It could form a cooperative col
ony, whose members, supplied as they
are with diversified talents, could sup
ply the needs of all without calling
upon outside experts. There are doc
tors, lawyers, ministers, school teach
riB, literary exponents, politicians,
merchants, an nrtlst. good cooks and
last but not. least farmers.
.Illrtory of the Kelly Clan records
that the Four Original Kellys crossed
the plains and settled in Oregon in
1 848. These doughty men and their
families were present when the foun
dation stones of the commonwealth of
this state were fixed. Clinton Kelly
donated the ground on which the Clin
ton Kelly public school now stands.
Penumbra Kelly of Portland, chief of
the clan, carries off the honors of be
ing the oldest member of the organiza
tion. During the past year three members
have passed on! Thy are: Mrs. Mar
garet F. Kelfy, widow of Hampton Kel
ly; tr. O. P. B. Plummer and Mrs. Re
becca Fawcett, of Portland.
The reunion will be in the nature of
n old-fashioned good time. " The fun
will commence at 1 p. m., and a mon
ster dinner will be served at 6 o'clock
In the evening. The entertainment fea
tures will include instrumental and vo
cal selections and recitations.

Charged with the embezzlement of
Rovernmcnt property in the appropria
tion of an army overcoat and cap,
Michael Schuh, quartermaster sergeant
of Company K. Third Oregon Infantry,
wan arrested yesiterday by Deputy
1'nlted Statee Marshal Leonard Becker.
This Is the first arrest for this kind of
en offense ever made in Oregon, al
though a good deal of the property
given by the government to the militia
Is r&ld to have mysteriously dis
nppeart'd from the Armory lately.
Hihuh lives at 511 North Twenty-fifth
street.
James O. T,ee. a farmer near Hills
boro, - was also arrested at his home
for receiving stolen property. Accord
ing to a statement made by Sohuh
to officers of the militia and Assistant
1'nlted Ktates Attorney K. A. Johnson,
he fcahl he had been employed by Lee,
and that the latter, expressing a desire
to have an army overcoat, gave Schuh
the money to come to Portland to get
it for him. Later, It la stated, militia
officers went to Lee's farm and found
a quantity of other government army
property.
"Following his statement to the'Unlt
ed States attorney's office a few days
ago. Hchuh Is said to have attempted
to enlist in the United States marine
"corps, but on account of the suspicion

it isaald he was rejected.

' Wut demanded that two elderly Chinese
women, with the father, be kept from
the home while the boy is there. The
boy seemed to be the only one who felt
' bad, and he rubbed his tearful eyes as
ba left the courtroom.
