Blind Masseur Piles Suit. O. Onne
.Turva was sued yesterday for $930 by
Peter Kokko, a blind masseur, alleged
to be due as wages for services ren
dered. Kokko alleges that he paid
Jurva $150 for lessons In his art and
that after he became expert Jurva
hired him, contracting to give him one
half of all proceeds from his work and
his board and lodging. After 15 months
a new contract was entered Into, he
said, by which he was to receive two
thirds of the profits from his work. He
alleges that he earned $2171 and has
been paid but $1241 and that because
of his blindness he was unable to keep
check on the profits of his work.

cause the 1914 budget made no pro
vision for any api-r .priatlon to aid the
chamber of commerce permanent ex

could be made. Secretary Glltner had
suggested that from $&00 to $1000 be
appropriated to aid in preserving fruits

Ksgro ard Indian Arrested. Philip
Whitehead, a negro, and Ralph Johns,
an Indian, the former charged with
sellirg liquor to Indians at Lakeview,
and the "latter accused of taking the li
quor on the Klamath Indian reserva
tion, have been brought to Portlaml by
Deputy United States Marshal George
Jackson and lodged In the county jail.
Both have been indicted by the grand
jury now in session. They were ar
rested on bench warrants in southern
Oregon last week.
Junior Orchestra Concert. The Clif
ford Junior orchestra, an aggregation
of young people playing string Instru
ments, will give a concert of four num
bers at Centenary M. E. Church, East
Ninth and Pine streets, Sunday night.

bo tapped Sunday and at the evening
service the pastor, 'Rev. Delrner H.

Judge Medina Adjourns Court. Cir
cuit Judge McGinn adjourned court
this morning until Monday, when ha
learned that attorneys In cases set for
trial were not present He said that
ha would give all attorneys until Mon
day to ba ready. When court is taken
up again in his department all Jury
cases will be tried first, that the Jury
men may be excused as soon as possi
ble and not kept at expense while court
cases are being tried.

H. R. Trowbridge, "who died May 13,
failed to mention his three minor
children in a will made in 1908, Mrs.
Caroline E. Trowbridge, his widow,
yesterday filed, a petition for her own
appointment as administratrix of his

Ballroad Man Dead. Following an
illnefm that lasted for nearly IS
months, Eugene S. Ferguson died yes
terday at his home, 47 Eighth street.
Until he was obliged to retire on ac
count of illness, Mr. Ferguson was con
tracting freight agent of the Chicago,
Milwaukee & St. Paul railway in Port
land. He Is survived by his widow.

Must Abstain From Uquor-Steve
Conner must abstain from liquor for
one year and make monthly reports to
Deputy District Attorney Hammersley,
according to the parole granted him
yesterday when he pleaded guilty to a
charge of assault. Circuit Judge Mor
row granted the parole after sentenc
ing Conner to a year in the county
jail.

Hodge Millard will discuss the sub
ject of "Story Telling and Children's
Literature," and tell some illustrative
stories at the Infant Science lecture
at 570 court house, Friday afternoon
at 2 o'clock, under the auspices of the
Parents Educational bureau. All in

Overheated Store Starts Blase, An
overheated stove this morning In the
King Hill delicatessen at 44 Twenty
third street north this morning caused
a small blaze in that place. Five fire
companies responded, but the cook put
cut the fire with water. The delicat
essen is owned by Mrs. Clara VIntln.
Teachers to OHve Concert. The Port
land Grade Teachers' association will
give a concert tonight In the Lincoln
high school auditorium, at -8:16. The
concert is under the direction of Mrs.

Voted lecturer to Speak. Dr. Fred
erick Jonte Stanley, a noted lecturer on
affairs In the orient, bas just advised
