DISEASE, SAYS HYSLOP
Head of Psychical Research
Society Finds They Are
Quite Efficacious,
New York, Dec. 1. Dr. James H. Hy

for Psychical Research, declares today ,
mat the existence of spiritual life has
been proved. He caya that dlscarnata
spirits may effect cures of physical ail
ments, and gives a number of instances
Indicating possible "treatment" by spir
its, as he believes, the patients includ
ing two of his children and himself.
"These cases show the possibility of
dlscarnate Influence on the human organ
ism," Dr. Hyslop says. "In some forms
they show the power to affect the sen
sory organism so as to produce appar
itions, .voices, sensations of touch, taste
and smelt and then on the muscles in

"The system Is so elastic In this re

digestive agents for different kinds of
foods, now furnishing alkalis, and now
furnishing acids for the process. Even
in emotion, fear, hope, grief, an
ger or other excitement It is not the
consciousness as a purposive agent that
does the work, but the Influence is that
of a reflex or unconscious action mani

"Now, suppose that a living soul has
become unable to produce the antitoxins
by its own initiative. Suppose that dis
