Judge Marshall K. SneH of Tacoma is
charged in a suit filed here by Mrs.
Nick Welch, Widow ef the proprietor of
a' North Yakima saloon, with conspiring
with -John and Martin Welch, brothers
of the deceased, to defraud the widow.
She asks that Martin Welch, adminls-,
trator of the estate, be removed, and
the American Surety . company, which

ity ip Lents, evidence of which is the

bulldinga on Main street between Fos
ter road and the oarllne, Is continuing,
as is shown by definite plans for two
more concrete buildings in the same Im
mediate vicinity, with the added possi
bility of a two story brick or concrete
structure being erected on the site of
the Ross building recently acquired by
Mrs. Fremont Lent
Property owned by Mrs.' Teager at
Main street and the carllne, one of the
most prominent locations In Lenta, will
soon bo lmprovod by a concrete building
to contain three large store rooms, and
equipped with the first hot water heat
ing plant in Lents. The building will
cover lots 17, 18, 19 and 20, the front
portion of which Is now occupied by a
frame structure, which wll! be torn
down or removed upon being vacated by
the Lents Hardware company.
Dr. Ervin L. Sells will erect a 80 by
35 foot concrete building for a complete
optical lena grinding plant and labora
tory, equipped with the modem machin
ery -
Following the recent trip of Inspection
by County Road Supervisor Small, im
portant street improvement for Lents
are under way. Six cesspools, 6 by 2
feet at the surface and several feet
deep, are being dug at intervals on Fos
ter road and other streets, one being at
Foster road and Second avenue, to drain
off street water. These will serve until
the rtreets are paved. Heavy boarding
will be put In as lining, and they will
be covered by several feet of dirt.
Wooden crosswalks have been placed
at Main street and Foster road. Super
visor Small calls attention to the city
ordinances against throwing rubbish on
the streets. Lems is now a part of the
city, and the ordinances will be enforced
here.
Friday's announcement of the absorp
tion, by tho Scandinavian-American bank
of Portland of the Commerce Trust &
Savings bank, Morrison and Park streets
Is of considerable Interest to Lents resi
dents, as several officers and directors
of the Multnomah State bank of Lents,

died Monday morning, were held Wed

Lents, Nov. 28. Twenty-four young
women of the Methodist church and
their teachers, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Faith,
were entertained by Mrs. W. Boyd
Moore at the parsonage from 4 to t. p.
m. Bunday. Cut flowers and ferns were
used In decorating. After a discussion
of Bible subjects a delightful luncheon
was served.
The new residence of' Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur Oulsler, on Bouth Main street,
was the scene of an enjoyable "600"
party last Friday evening. The first
prise for ladles was won by Mrs. W. A.
Hall, and Mr. "Shlng carried off the gen
tlemen's first prise. Mrs. Ida Allen and
Paul Gelsler were awarded the booby
prizes.
Mrs. Gelsler was assisted in serving
supper by her sister-in-law. Miss Gels
ler. The guests were Mr. end Mrs

Tacoma, Wash., Nov. 28. H. P. Scheel
announces plans for the construction of
a 30-mile railroad between Metolius aud
Prineville in central Oregon. Scheel Is
a stone quarry operator.
Potatoes Are In.
Monmouth, Or., Nov. 28. During the
past week potatoes In large quantities
have been shipped to Portland markets
from the city. The crop was heavy and
now is entirely dug.

Candidate 'to Talk to Parent
Teacher Association.
Lents, Nov. 28. The annual election
of officers of Lents court, Foresters of
America, will occur Monday evening".
Last Monday evening nearly ip6 were
present In Odd Fellows' hall at thj
first of the monthly entertainments to
be1 held this winter. Cards were In
dulged in, with music and songs by
the Johnson Male quartet of Portland.
Refreshments were served.
Next Tuesday evening the Lents
Parent-Teachers' association will meet
in the school bouse assembly hall. In
addition, to drills by the Bchool chil
dren, Robert A. Miller of Portland, can
didate for governor, will deliver on ad
dress on the "Conservation of Life,"
and Miss Dagmar Kelly of Portland
will sing several solos.
Wednesday night the Pioneer chap
ter of Eastern Star of Oregon City will
be entertained by the ladies of the local
lodge. After Initiation of members and
the conferWng" of the floral degree for
the first time, refreshments "Will be
served.
Starting Thursday, December 4, St.
Peter's Romau Catholic church will hold
a three day baznar in Seward's hall.

Fellows' hall Friday night, after which

Mrs. Mamie Cox was the head, and the
losers will soon banquet the winners.
