NEWS
Chtcaa-ti. Nov. S. It has heen a da of
bearish news for the wheat trade and
at the close there' is recorded a net de

An eany nip in. tne maraet xoiiowing
Liverpool cable was followed by a quick
rallv because a leading house bought
easily 600,000 bushels of December and
May, Shorts bought at the- same time.
Argentine news had considerable to
do with the action of the market early
and late. It was thought that some of
the best buying of ths morning was
based on adverse' cables 'given out on
India and Ararentlne bv a local house.
The bullish claims conflicted with the
earlier Broomhall advices - from both
countries. Still later Chicago houses had
Buenos Ay res cables declaring that
weather and crop conditions ars fine,: It

There Is not ths slightest sign of

; withstanding tne fact that practically
an ins leading trade centers In ths coun
try today showed sharp losses in ths
price. .
eaics or nogs were sgsin maae at
North Portland at the former extreme
fitice of $8.80 for top offerings, this ba
ng fully 26c higher then similar quality
Is selling at any other market In the en
tire country.
At Chicago there was a weaker tone
in the hog trade today, with a loss of
10 to 15a In theories. -
Ksnsaa City hog market was very
weak, with a further decline of 15o In
the price. '
South Omaha hog trade ruled weaker,
jfith a loss of a dims from yesterday.
Today's general hoar market ranae:
Top killers ,8 8.8
Good and light 8.008.2
Heavy 7.6
Rough and heavy 7.00 7i25
.. Cattle Ars Holding steady.
While showing practically no change
in the price, the cattle trade at North
Portland is considered steady at ths low
range recently In effect. There waa
quite a liberal movement to market, but
killer have been taking hold somewhat
better. . - .1 .
With the first sears of the Australian
beef over -and the- experiment proven a
dismal failure so far as ths local market
Is concerned, klllera are not so wary of
the stock as they were - for several
weeks. ' ' - ' -
All of '.the big killers ars now putting
considerable stock on feed with ths ex
pectation of a better market later in the
season. Ths Yakima Herald of late date
says that In connection with their feed
ing operations on the reservation ' this
fail and winter, Frye A Co. will dis
tribute approximately $200,000 among
reservation hay growers and in wagea to
men in their employ, saya ths Review of
Toppentsh. A large portion of this
amount has already , been paid out, and
before tne first of December practically
every farmer who has sold hay or rent
ed pasture lands to ths company will
have his money In band.
The big meat concern now has 4000
cattle and 30,000' sheep on- the reserva
tion and the former will soon be In
creased to 8000.. Their purchases of hay
for feeding exceed 20,000 tons for which
they have paid approximately $110,000.
xnoy nave rented during ths. season
something over 10,000 acres of hay stub
bis for pasture purposes, : which hss
brought the farmers an average of $3.60
oer acre. In addition duiinar the sum
mer they had several thousand acres of
wild paaturs aiong Toppenisn creek for
wnicn a smaller rental was paia.
During ths entire winter they will
employ a man and team at each feeding
yard, with a pay roll of about $2000 per
month; for riders the company pays out
about $500 per month, for men and
teams $1000 per month and for sheep
herders and miscellaneous mirnoaea
about $1000 additional.
At Chicago there was a loss of lOo
to 16c in ths cattle market for the day,
Kansas City cattls market ruled
steady with only a small run.
South Omaha cattle market was gen
erally a dime lower for the day. .
