has taken up snake hunting.
A few days ago. when It was reported
that a 1 foot cobra had bean aeen near
the Geatra Sporting club's grandstand,
and he learned that the native police
and keepera were not eager to Interview
the reptile, Kltchner sent for a snake
charmer. On the promise that the fa
mous soldier would personally attend to
the 'snake, the native began whistling
softly. Soon, to the horror of the by-
tanders, not one reptile but six crawled
from under the stand. The natives
promptly bolted, but Lord Kitchener
with four of nla aides waded in with
stout cudeels and after an exciting fight
killed the snakes.
Kitchener was so pleased with the af
ternoon's sport that he had the Snake
charmer permanently retained on his
staff.
