Cornerstone of Bishop . .
Scott Academy.
An event of the past week that re
called to Portland pioneers an Import
ant building event of 34 years ago,. was
the recovery of a tin box la the cornet
fetono of the' old Bishop Scott academy
building, containing newspapers, church
publications, sohool catalogues and other
relics that were stored away In -a block
of cement, when ,? the oorner stono- of
the academy was" set The building was
wrecked to make room for modern Im
provements. .'," 'j' ' ' ;;. ' -.(-
In when this building was erect
ed, such an ' event was an important
one, for It meant an Important addition
to Portland, ana in those days the optl
mists dreamed of a big city and every
new building was a step toward . tho
realisation of that dream.
A large crowd of Portlanders, espe
cially cnurcn peopie, attenoea tne lay
ing of this stone. The services were
conducted by Bishop ? Morris, Rev.
George Plummer and General O. O. How

The Bishop Scott academy building
for the past few years, has been known
as the Glendora hotel.
1 Mrs. E. R. Gllsan and Mrs. C E. Wil
son were among those present at this
ceremony. In speaking of the affair,
it was recalled by them as one of the
big things in the hisvory of the church
and school. Much Interest was taken
at that time in the school and every
thing that had to do with the advance
ment of the academy was entered into
with much enthusiasm,

two-story reenforced concrete building

avenue, to cost $20,000 that is to be
used as a moving picture theatre. This
