There is very little Interest shown by
the trade at present; for the-few lots
of better quality, except by short sell

different as to the future. Whether
this Is a bluff remains to be seen.
American brewers are showing an In

right. This in Itself indloates . that
slocks of hops held by beer makers are
not nearly as heavy as had been gen

'The situation In the Interior markets
has not changed materially. Conditions
in New York are also very similar. For
the class of hops that comprise the
bulk of the ramlnlng stock there is very
little inquiry and values somewhat un
certain, but choice growths are in small
supply and held with some confidence,
up to 27ft28c. Locally there haa been
comparatively little new business. Fur
ther important deliveries have been
made to brewers on early contracts, and
quite a good deal of stock has been
shipped to Europe. This has given the
appearance of some activity, but the
fresh purchase's on either home or for
eign account have been limited.

The wheat market here is a very
quiet affair. The lack of demand for
Paclflo northwest cargoes abroad Is a
dominating weak feature. While no
change in prices is shown for the day.
few dealers are really in the market at
the present time.
With Argentina wheat cargoes selling
In Liverpool at extremely low prices,
the outlook Is far from being a favor
able one. Th situation throughout the
world baa been erratic and until con
ditions are somewhat settled and cargo
buyers really find what the market is,
little bidding can be expected.
Market for oata continues to reflect
much atrength locally as well as at
other points along ths coast. Prices
are holding unchanged at $26 to $26,60
for No. 1 feed.
There has been no Improvement In the
barley situation. The declaion of Cali
fornia Interests to discriminate against
the Paclflo northwest product la having
a bad effect upon the trade here, but

COURT HOLDS AGAINST
DOCK COMMISSION
That the owners of property abutting
the waterfront have authority to build
wharves from the low-water mark to the
harbor line was decided by Circuit Judge
Morrow, in sustaining a demurrer to the
suit of the state to be made a party to
the injunction suits of William Retd and
the Paciflo Milling & Elevator company
against the dock commission and city.
Judge Morrow stated; that he waa not
called upon to decide upon title to the
land, but that since the wbarfing privil
ege had Oeen granted these owners by
the legislature and had never been re
pealed he saw no reason why owners
should be denied the privilege even
though they had never utilised it.
The privilege was granted many years
ago,-and in 14Z4 the leglsiatur granted
the title to upiana owners to lands be
tween high and low water along the
rivers, judge Morrow held that should
the position of the state be upheld that
the act was against public policy it
would destroy title to millions of dol
lars' worth .of property and that such a
question should not be decided by . a
subordinate court but should be carried
