an Interview at the Multnomah hotel.

Entertained at Luncheon.
When Supreme Regent MoFaden
reached Portland this morning he was
greeted at the train by a reception com
mittee composed of prominent -local
members of the Royal Arcanum and in
cluding Dr. and Mrs. Luther Dyott,
Colonel George W. Halten, j. E. Wer
lein, V. Vincent Jones, regent pf Mult
nomah council; Frank Wilmot, Frank
Dayton, Dr. Amos. He was taken to
the Commercial club for luncheon and
Mrs. McFaden was entertained by Mrs.
Dyott. This afternoon there will be an
automobile tour of the city. ; Mr. and
Mrs. MeFadoa will dine as guests of Dr.
and Mrs. Dyott. This evening at the
Masotilc temple, the supreme regent will
preside over the Initiation of a large
class of candidates for membership in
the Royal Arcanum, he being assisted
by the supreme regent's drill teamr

Norfolk, Va., Nov. !. With her port
quarter badly damaged from collision
with the schooner J. Holmes Birdsall
of Philadelphia, the battleship Vermont
s in xlampton Roads today. Tho
schooner rrfmmed the warship and had
her boom torn away and her starboard
bow crushed. The Vermont anchored
immediately after the accident and sent
lifeboats to the rescue of the Blrdsail's
crew. The latter refused assistance, and
tho Vermont then took the schooner In
tow.
Now that the street vacation proposi
tion has become the law, and the way
oponed to utilize the market block as a
site for the proposed Audltorlwm, thereat

members of the Auditorium commission
to proceed with the construction of the
building on the South Third street
block. As originally outlined by the
commission it will be necessary In or
der to secure a site large enough for
the purpose, to vacate Markot street
between Second and Third, as well as

In view, of the fact that, the com

Holman, who owns ona fourth of this
block, ths two lots at' Third and Mill
streets, is understood to have recently
put a price of $45,000 on the propurty.
The single lot at the southeast cor
ner of Second and Market streets, which
is tljrectly across Second street from the
Strip required for the Auditorium sue,
Is-assessed for $7100, while the lot at
the southwest corner of Third arid Mar
ket is valued by the assessor at $9600,
with improvements at $860. "

the Willapa Lumber company's boom
on the Willapa river, the body of Iver
Langland, a shingle weaver, was re
covered yesterday by the boom man,

past three weeks.
Langland, aged about 45 years, who
resided with his family, a wife and
